Is that why no one in this conference goes to the tourney? Farm equipment is the required travel method?

We'll undoubtedly have to switch over to synthetic oil to make it safely.
Looks like round-trip plane tickets from Wichita to Memphis for a family of 4 will run around 2k. The majority of Shocker fans drove to St. Louis...

You can drive to Memphis. It's about 8 hours from Wichita so you can drive down the day before and back the day after. A few years ago I drove 8 hours (Reno to Boise Idaho) to watch TU play one game.

That happens everywhere but at least now you have the chance for WSU, SMU, Tulsa, or Cincy fans to put some bits in seats if Memphis bows out early

the 2014 AAC tourney where we lost to UConn early-on is the best attended AAC tourney to date...
2014 attendance: 63,636
2015 attendance: 45,480
2016 attendance: 38,871
I see why they want to come back.
When the Tiger are not playing, the actual attendance at FedEx is sparse. It is obvious from looking at the games on TV and from the many games I attended in person.
Ahhh, so confronted with empirical data vs anecdotal evidence, you choose anecdotal.
No, there are two separate points. My point: the attendance for non-Tiger games is low. Your point: Memphis reported attendance is better than the other 2015 and 2016 sites. Both points are correct. Furthermore, the figures you cite is announced attendance. My comments were directed to actual attendance.

I agree. I think we'll see a Memphis team that plays hard and unselfish. It may take time to really get all the pistons firing but Tubby will have them as a consistent tourney team before long.

This is a good move. I am hoping that for the 2020-2022 slots, Cincinnati can get a spot with a renovated 5/3 Arena. Capacity will be a little on the low side at about 12,000, but it's not like conference tournament games not involving the host team ever draw over 10K anyway. BOK Center (Tulsa), Intrust Bank Arena (Wichita), and American Airlines Arena (Dallas) would also be good choices.

RE: Memphis to host 2019 conference basketball tournament
Memphis is the best option IMO. Also, the poster who suggestion Tulsa, I really don't get that. I would prefer a weekend in Memphis, Philly, NOLA, Houston, Dallas or Orlando before Tulsa. All these cities have NBA arenas and provide much more entertaining options.
Also, the only benefit of having Tulane in the conference is NOLA. Not taking advantage of that is like having UNLV and not having Vegas host the tournament.

Good. Now keep it there permanently!!
Agree. Memphis feels like the geographic center of the conference.
.
nah - having it in one spot all the time is boring unless you are in a place like NYC plus it gets expensive buying tournament books on top of season tickets every year too. its nice to spread the joy around. a 6 year rotation of Memphis, Dallas, Houston, NOLA, Orlando and then a wild card site would be perfect

Memphis will be good but I was really looking forward to it possibly being in OKC.

It makes sense to keep Memphis as a regular in the rotation, every 3 or 4 years. Try out some other venues to see what works:
2018: Orlando
2019: Memphis
2020: *Philadelphia
2021: *OKC
2022: *DC? NYC?
2023: *Memphis

Why be thought of as a world-class basketball conference by keeping your tournament centrally located, like the ACC and nBE do, when you can instead be a 2nd rate conference by moving your tourney site every year. Amiright?

I see both points.
I like the idea of going to OKC with the tournament. Yet, I also like the idea of cultivating Memphis as the permanent home.

It sits right on the I35 corridor, and offers great access to schools in the Western region.
Attendance would be great and its in a neutral city that is becoming identified with basketball. The idea of a neutral city intrigues me as well.
I think its a good area to plant a flag and its the only neutral city that makes sense.

I get having a neutral city if you have no better options but we have schools in GREAT cities that are basketball cities - Memphis, Philly, Houston, Dallas and NOLA. I would not call OKC a great basketball city and it is not a destination city by any means. Plus, people there only care about OU and the Big 12. It offers decent access to only four of the twelve schools (WSU, Tulsa, SMU and Houston). Also, why do you think attendance would be great?

Get your civic minded corporate army behind it. For a weekend, your city is on display and the American Conference is depending on you. Take your responsibility seriously damn it.
