Dane goes back to third. Addison in to pitch and he's greeted with La Tech's 11th hit.

SB, single makes it 4-0. Runner advances to 2nd when throw sails over cutoff man.

Evan in to pitch. 1st pitch is deposited in left center. 5-0. Amador in.

I'm going home to watch the Masters (not the Magisters).

Was he not trying to get an out prior to that visit? 03-hissyfit Let's go Owls pull one out.

How did the baseball program go down so fast? There must be a lot of internal problems we are not aware of. If Rice wants to be a P5 program, they need to start acting like we are serious about athletics. Fire Graham at the end of the year.

B8 ... courtesy of GameTracker:

Sheppard singled through the left side.
Chandler struck out swinging.
SUBSTITUTION: Dunlap pinch hit for Amador.
Dunlap grounded into double play SS to 1B; Sheppard out on the play.

SMH!! Grrrrr.

Fortunately, I was already home ... watching the Masters.

Fire the coach who brought Rice its only national championship? Though I wish he could have finished out his final contractual year, he needs to retire at the end of this season.

We need to actually win a few series if we want to reach 8th place and get a conference tourney spot.

RE: Sunday Baseball vs LaTech Game Thread
We were outhit 16 to 3. LaTech's Friday closer came back with a complete game on Sunday, and we didn't give him any trouble. Gneiting and Warren both got on base at the very start of the game. Warren was picked off at second, and we never had two runners on base at any point for the rest of the day. A walk in the second, one single in each of the seventh and eigth (the latter erased in a double play), and the benefit of an error in the ninth. We had as many total base runners as LaTech put across the plate, and two of our runners were put out on the basepath. An offense this inept needs a bullpen like we've traditionally had, but it just isn't there anymore, and we're being exposed.

RE: Sunday Baseball vs LaTech Game Thread
Every year we are told what a great group of recruits we have coming in, "this year". How we will be back to form. This year it's been more like the football story. Actually it has been sliding out from under us gradually over the last 6 to 8 years. This year it has become painfully obvious. It appears that recruits, the great ones, have learned that there are other coaches who can coach. And other schools with easier academics. And other schools which have the keys to the city. If you were a heralded baseball recruit, would you rather spend 4 years in Houston, or Fort Worth? I grew up in Houston, went to college at Rice. Then I found out how nice it is in Fort Worth. I haven't been in a traffic jam since the last time I visited Dallas. Back to square one....

RE: Sunday Baseball vs LaTech Game Thread
is there a reason Dunlop is not given an extended look in the lineup? The season is in the gutter. Others including Gray have been given ample time to perform. Amador keep getting rolled out there to serve as a human piñata. Someone need to give that boy Ben Gay for the neck. Truly perplexing why he is rolled out there so often. Could be I would rather lose and be right than win and be wrong mindset. Reality is the season could be done by one of May and no post season play. Really sad.

I agree with the Dunlap and Amador references. Just doesn't make any sense.

I wonder if the lineup will start to see significant changes as we move further from contention?

Seems like it is worth giving some young guys a shot and seeing what the rest of the team is capable of.

Disagree with you on this point. A lot of kids like the big city and Houston, rather than a place like College Station or even Fort Worth and it's whole cowboy vibe. Rice students typically getting stuck on freeway traffic - their lives are either on campus or very close within the loop.

I actually think being in Houston is a net positive in recruiting, even beyond the point that it's a fertile recruiting ground.

I got to go with Pants on this one, and I am a neighbor of sorts with WeatherfordOwl, living in the area. I doubt prospects have ease of driving at the top of their list.

Also agree. The issue isn't traffic or Houston. In fact Houston is a great city to live. Academic course load isn't an issue. I can't see losing players because they want an easy course load. That would menthe would run from UVA, Vandy, Stanford etc. Most of the kids take Sports Management anyway. You can't pass that then you have some serious academic challenges. This issue is obvious and is the elephant in the room.
