When 5/3rd Arena was built it was made as an all purpose arena to get the state funding UC needed at the time. Hence the pull out seating on the lower level. Here is a pic of what she looks like right now. Seating is 13,176

The upgrade will gut it and create a permanent (not roll out) all chair back lower bowl along with chairbacks in the upper decks (which are currently bleachers). It also adds more luxury suites than we have now and creates better sight lines for for all seating. To do this they are going to lower seating capacity to ~11,500 (last figure I heard anyway):

1. Big 10 = 12,675
2. ACC = 11,312
3. SEC = 11,263
4. Big 12 = 10,380
5. Big East = 9,770
6. Pac 12 = 7,876
7. MWC = 7,167
8. American = 6,622
9. A10 = 4,941
10. MVC = 4,610
11. WCC - 4,015
12. CUSA = 3,879
13. Horizon = 2,987
14. MAC = 2,901

With the new arenas coming on stream at Cincy and Houston, I am hopeful the league can average 7K.

PS Adding Dayton and VCU would do it. And knock the A10 down below the Missouri Valley.

Tulane really kills any average with basketball attendance. I don't think their arena can even hold 3k. Good news if they can get respectable getting sellouts might not be that hard.

In a WSU baseball pre-game show, the AD said during negotiations WSU offered to help financially with the un-budgeted costs of AAC teams due to the new schedules for 2017-2018. This is in addition to the reported $2.5M buy-in. Obviously we really, really wanted out of the MVC.

Official capacity is listed as 4,000. I suspect the reality is about 3,800.

Tulane should upgrade to at least 6,000. There are high school gyms that hold more spectators then that arena does

Doing something about basketball facilities is definitely the next move for Tulane athletics. If not for Katrina, this would have been done 10 years ago. We were in survival mode, then the football stadium took priority. Now it's MBB's turn.

High school gyms? Hell, the pictures in your signature are bigger than their entire arena...

Welcome, Shockers! Temple University and our fans are glad to have you. Don't worry our home games are in a very safe part of North Philly, you'll fit right in.

Is the AAC a power conference in basketball now? Pretty much was before this move IMO but this move solidifies it. See link to thread below.

To be fair to him, I wouldn't expect many of the AAC schools to leave CKA with a win. Tough place to play.

Cincinnati did it as a matter of routine while in the MVC. Will do so again.

In your dreams. We've broken almost every record y'all left in the Valley. You might get us in Kentucky, but we hold serve at home. Not happening.

Really? 5 straight Final Fours? 3 straight Finals? Back to back titles? A full season, wire to wire, ranked #1 in the AP? Three straight NPOY awards? WSU beat all those records? WSU beat everyone not named Cincinnati. Welcome home. 05-stirthepot

See... the weird thing is, according to kenpom - you know that predictive measure that pro sports gamblers rely on, and the guy the NCAA is using to help re-shape the antiquated RPI - WSU has finished above Cincy every season this decade save for one, and the average margin of something like 20 spots isn't even really close. From an empirical perspective, during that same period, WSU has had 10 NCAA wins, a F4, a S16, and a #1 seed. In the same context, Cincy basically halves those results (to be generous), with 5 NCAA wins and a S16.

I guess what I'm saying is, WSU is absolutely thrilled to now surround themselves with more respectable and accomplished programs, but if some are under the assumption they're the big dogs going into the little dogs house to show him how the real world works, then they're quite likely in for a pretty substantial case of cognitive dissonance here in about 8 months or so.

Cincy sweeps WSU next year. Just like old times. We do appreciate the RPI help though. 03-wink
