Great post...

Maybe this needed to happen and maybe it didn't.

Why is drunk assed Saul an assistant coach here? You think he's on a staff somewhere if his daddy isn't the coach?

.500 is possible next year because the schedule is S h I t.

Still can beat all the 200+ RPI teams at the forum , just have to struggle to win.

I see at least 2 more down years before the team has a realistic chance to be an NCAA tournament type team. Maybe.

But hey, if you like the last three years then you'll like the next 2-3 years too.

Why are you character assassinating Saul? Was he drunk on the job here at Memphis? I don't recall him getting into any issues this season.

Come on...

You can at least admit that Saul is a questionable choice as assistant coach...

Similar to how Saul was questionable about getting playing time at UK.

That is one place I can find serious flaws with Tubby...

I have to agree. I'll wait to see who Tubby recruits to take their places but, the way things are looking now, I see a precipitous drop from this year's results - probably a losing season. I sure hope I'm totally wrong.

You did see the last two weeks of the season, right? How did the Tigers do with them in the lineup?

Yeah they sucked at the end. They probably ran out of gas, like several on this board predicted.

Ran out of gas? You must not have seen the games preceding those where the two would sit on the bench and laugh it up while the team was drawing up a play for the win or tie seconds after a big shot by the opponent...

Not to mention Tubby more than likely was drawing up a play for the Lawsons.

Heck I remember KJ on several occasions yapping with someone in the stands while the tigers were running their offense...his back to the play not paying attention at all but he wasn't being used right he says. Lol. Players nowadays...

Nope...someone better would be preferable. But let's see what he does upcoming season or 2 before I decide he's useless.

But to call him a drunk ass coach is wrong. That's getting personal for no rhyme or reason.

Bottom line, I think this team will be better, more motivated and surprising. I'd expect 5 more signees with all ready to compete and play.
Like I said, I sure I'll catch hell here for this opinion, and that's fine.

I agree - you summed it up perfectly in my opinion.

The program has had some real malcontents recently. Hopefully Tubby can get in his guys and start rolling. He's a year behind now, that's for sure.

If Tubby turns Memphis into Wichita then great.

Going 24-12 and getting sandblasted in the first round while the Lawsons and DJ Jeffries are lighting it up at SEC schools is going to get him canned....no matter how crazy out expectations are.

It's not going to end well. Next season will be a disaster. 4th year in a row with zero post season.

Year after that will be lucky to be as good as this year. 5th year in a row nonlist season.

Tubby will get fired and we'll have to start over with a new guy.

It'll take him a couple of years to get it rolling IF he knows what he's doing.

Unless you enjoy losing, mediocre basketball you ain't gonna be happy.

Like in my other thread, if it looks like (and it does) that after year three we will be looking at no NCAA's and a team made up of Azab, Clergeot, and Martin as the only upperclassmen and it looks like Tubby should be let go, why not just do it now if you are relatively certain you'll be doing it after year three.

1. Too expensive
2. Hard to find a quality coach if you fire a future HOF'er coach after one year

If he can't land a high quality 2018 class (or wins with lesser recruits), I think he may be shown the door

Yeah, I agree. That "hit the wall" thing was a lot like the Lawson's press release -- trying to put lipstick on a pig.

Coaches don't give a crap about how "a future hOF coach is treated."

I bet every coach who was mentioned as a possible replacement to Pastner is thinking to himself "what a dumb*** Tubby is for screwing up the deal with the Lawson's. Man, if I had that job I'd be rolling..."

Someone is always willing to step up if the money is right.

RE: I'm sure I'll get blasted here but...
Anyone acting as though a team without Dedric Lawson is better than a team with him sound at best, silly, at worst, something else.

People who argued that the team was better without Nichols were mocked.

Last year's team that made a run to the conference finals very well could have been another NCAA tourney team with him.

Next year's team with an engaged coach and Dedric Lawson a threat to make it back to the NCAAs. Much less so without him.

If you railed that Nichols was not cancerous and that the problem was all on the coach, now you rail that it was the player who is cancerous, your point is unfortunately too clear.

The atmosphere and fan base have become toxic and cancerous. Players leave or stay, hit or miss shots. Any team in the country will be better with an engaged Dedric, as any team in the country would have been better with an engaged Nichols.

One cannot have been a locker room issue without the other one also being one...following modern logic.

Man you guys.
