For all the flack I give Murphy, when he gets kids to visit, they usually commit. If Ellison doesn't have any other D1 options, it should be even easier. Just hoping someone like CMU or Oakland poaches him late.

"Ellison made 7-of-16 shots, 4-of-8 3-pointers and 14-of-16 free throws, all eight of his fourth-quarter attempts."

BTW, here is Ellison's Twitter account. Confirms the EMU offer. Does NOT confirm a verbal to EMU.

https://twitter.com/Stoneywoney23

I have no idea if the broadcasters, Dan Gutkowsky and Grant Long, did their 'homework'. Did they TALK with Ellison? What is their basis for saving that he committed to EMU?

Sometime these broadcasters are very lackadaisical with their research.

Buffalo has a commit from the #2 JUCO in the country? Yikes.

I love his (Ellison) skill set.

I'm concerned about his competition in class C. I have not seen Ellison play and I do know that a good player is good regardless of class. For example, Brian Tolbert played at Class C Detroit Deporres, but he was 6'2" and a stud shooter and defensive player.

Ellison at 5'8" must be able to handle the ball remarkably well and shoot it too if he can play at D1 level.

A better, more relevant example is Monte Morris, also a recent player from Flint Beecher (Mr. Basketball) who starred in D-I hoops.

Three state championships and you're worried about the level of competition lucky? The kid is winner and a leader we need him at EMU

I'll guess that he sees plenty of tough competition in the Flint area. Emu should work hard to establish a recruiting pipeline to that area.

I believe I heard Ellison is 5'7". I think every basketball player adds an inch or two to their roster height. Regardless, it's not how tall they are but it's how they play the game. I really couldn't care how tall is.

And...

Someone in the recruiting realm told me last summer that they saw EMU coaches watching his AAU team (Greenwood) last summer.

As I frequently mention it really doesn't matter (too much) which school a player is from, he will get the opportunity during spring and summer AAU ball so show what he can do versus other top h.s. players.

That is why I say the day of the 'hidden gem' is over. What h.s. player with D-I talent sits home during summer and misses a chance to get noticed?

The world has changed a lot in the last few decades. Internet, social media, recruiting sites, AAU ball all contribute to more and more information and less of a chance that an EMU will steal a hidden gem sitting 25 miles from our campus.

EDIT: I read that Beecher beat UD-Jesuit and played tough New Haven and Detroit East Village. All very good teams. Ellison has been tested by the best.

EDIT2: Here is their schedule: http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/bee...hedule.htm

For those in S.E. MI, here is a very nice MI h.s. all-star game featuring a ton of very good h.s. seniors including Epps and Ellison.

Chance to see Epps and uncommitted prospects play against the best h.s. seniors in Michigan, including players headed to UofM, MSU, Marquette, etc.

Jamal Cain from Cornerstone was Class C. I guess the Big East wasn't too worried about his level of competition, since he's going to Marquette this fall.

Monte Morris of Iowa State was at Beecher right before Ellison. Proven winner.

Since we are having this discussion:

I read that Epps does better in a full court offense. Ellison can really push the ball and play fast. Bond is fast and plays fast. JT4 is very fast for a 6' 10" player.

This team has the potential to get faster.

(BTW, I have never seen any highlights on Jackson. Don't know his speed.)

Ellison uncommitted according to this article. I am sure with the coaching at EMU in transition, it won't help secure top notch recruits. However, it is better to suffer another season with Murphy and bring in a real coach vs giving him an extension in hope of signing recruits.
