RE: 2016/17/18 Men's Basketball Recruiting
Yep, the biggest problem in scouting h.s. ball: players in h.s. playing positions completely different than their collegiate position. And, of course, it usually happens like Epps here playing center when 'no way' in normal circumstances is he a center.
Epps originally projected as a shooting guard, now probably a small forward, playing the post in h.s.
The problem is that the skill sets for C and SF are completely different.
Was this the highlight you refer, Luckey?

Now, OTOH, that highlight was a WING play. Not a post play. shows what he can do as a wing player.

Yep, the second dunk. The clip doesn't provide the best recording of the crowd reaction.

Yep, want to see a wing player who can dunk from the arc. Very nice...

Interesting. Looks like we are showing interest.
Ben did not shy away from s small point guard back in 1994. I don't think that fits Murphy's style though.
yes, because of length.
BTW, I do believe a player like Ellison could be a change of pace player for EMU.
Sometimes a player quicker than a water bug is nice to have.

Looking to go higher? MAC?

I had the pleasure of announcing Corey's last two years at Ypsi High and his first year at UDM. I'd be really surprised if he transferred. Also, someone should let the Detroit News know that the picture in the middle of the article is Josh McFolley, not Corey Allen.

RE: 2016/17/18 Men's Basketball Recruiting
Epps season ended last night vs. Romulus. Hopefully his next game will be as an EMU player.
"Keion Epps, Wayne’s 6-6 senior center, just missed a triple-double, finishing with 16 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks."
And as I assume most know, Epps is not a center. He plays out of position and is probably a collegiate SF, or maybe a SG. Definitely a wing player.

Late signing period 4-12-2017 to 5-17-2017 believe this also applies to women's basketball

Eastern Michigan University just offered Beecher PG Malik Ellison, per Mike Williams.

I like it. He doesn't fit the Murphy size mode, but would be a player who can push the ball.

I count 9 returning scholarship players from this year's team. Add in Groce and that's 10. EMU still has 3 schollies to give, right?

Only 1, if we are assuming Keion Epps is still coming here (all signs point to that still being the case). Tariq Silver signed in the early signing period, making him the 11th scholarship.
There could be some attrition, which would add to the numbers available, but right now we have lots of offers out there for only one available scholarship.

RE: 2016/17/18 Men's Basketball Recruiting
I'm all aboard. Hopefully we sign him. I'll always take my chances on kids who produce like crazy at a high level. Dropping 63 points on a really good basketball school like New Haven is impressive, no matter how big the kid is.
Watching his highlights, he's every bit as fast and quick as you'd expect. Just a blur on the court. Appears to have a very good jumper with huge range. Only thing is he doesn't seem to finish strong at the rim. The thing that makes guys like Earl Boykins and Marcus Keene elite scorers is that they can not only hit 3's, but they can finish at the rim and draw fouls. It'll be telling how he performs against bigger teams.
But he's worth the risk, in my opinion. Just like LaMonta Stone was. Even though Stone didn't work out, it doesn't mean the same will happen with Ellison. All we know is that he dominates high school games and wins state titles. That's a good start.

If this forum had existed back in 1994, I wonder what we all would have said if we found out Ben had signed a 5'5" point guard. I'm sure we all would have raised our eyebrows and thought to ourselves, what the hell is Ben doing.
Even though I criticize him, I'll trust Murphy on this. If the kid can score like that that he's worth the risk.
