Can't blame them for wanting to play at IMG, Montverde, or Oak Hill. But anytime you have 2 players of that caliber leave the city, it's not a positive thing for the Memphis program.

Look I was against the staffing move also and said as much here. But you do realize that Saul was not just a VC, right? He had a lot more AC experience than Keelon did. So labeling him with that tag is a bit hyperbolic.

Anyway, you may be right but I don't think so. First, there's the timing. This is far removed from the staffing decisions. And this timing doesn't sting Memphis - it stings East. Why announce this now as East is prepping for playoffs? Has anything happened with East or Penny lately? Oh, wait. DJ Jeffries.

Second, if it was just a move to leverage Memphis, then he doesn't have to switch schools to do that. He can just freeze them out - while sitting at East with Penny.

This is probably a move primarily to improve development. But the timing indicates it's also directed at stinging Penny/East.

Fair enough. Although I did lend some initial credence to development - less so to academics or recruiting. I also talked to someone last night.

I can't imagine Penny is pleased. However, East is still going to be very very good and IF DJ Jeffries is added, you could make an argument that East will be better. I have no knowledge or inside info about DJ Jeffries making the move. But again it seems Penny wasn't shown much loyalty. I don't get it, why not stay with Penny and East where you will win probably three straight state titles? The only thing I can come up with is playing time. Dad doesn't want his sons sitting on the bench sharing time with other players just as good or better than his boys. And if that's it, why don't you man up and practice your butt off to the degree that you are so good, Penny can't take you out of the game??

Yes but they are logical assumptions. Obviously it would seem fair to assume Penny isn't pleased. I have no knowledge of this. I just put myself in the spot and think how would I feel. Not too good if one of my star players left me and took his younger star brother with him. The biggest assumption is of course DJ Jeffries coming to East. If you took DJ off the table, meaning he doesn't move to east. Then if you're the Lawson's why are you leaving? Which brings me back to how Penny may be feeling.

If they play AAU ball for Team Penny this summer I think that would indicate that this had nothing to do with a beef with Penny.

Also, if the reason of leaving is solely for the development of the Lawsons, it seems it's a slap in the face of one of the greatest players this city has ever seen (Penny)
