RE: BJ Stith
We are only going to go as far as Talley and Caver take us. BJ and maybe someone unexpected will occationally get hot and carry us for a short stretch, but a lot of weight is placed on those 2 guys. Brandan kicks in with rebounding and occational scoring, but is nowhere near the offensive force I expected him to be coming into the year. Baker has essentially become non existent, I honestly would play BJ and Haynes at the two far more often than we do now.

RE: BJ Stith
Baker is playing way less down the stretch than he had been early in the year. Obviously, if we're in a situation where we're going to get fouled, we want Jordan in the game. He's our best foul shooter. But, in other moments, when we need offense, Jeff is going with Caver, BJ, and Talley in the backcourt.
Haynes has shown flashes, but he's takes far too many bad shots to be someone Jeff can trust down the stretch of a tight game.

RE: BJ Stith
It was interesting that Baker was not in the game at certain points down the stretch last night. He went with BJ over Baker and I really can't blame him. I would too until it was time for automatic fouls.
I agree with Haynes and bad shots and not so great defense. But, he is shooting 38% from 3 (will probably go down) in conference play and adds a bit of play making ability with surprisingly low turnovers. I just wish he was better defensively, which he should be with his athleticism.

BJ had to have been frustrated last night...he missed two open-look, uncontested 3s and- due to some very poor help defense- simply could not keep McGill far enough from the basket for his defensive positioning to have effect...at least he didn't foul.

Yeah, I can't get on board with that even with how excited I am thinking about Caver/Stith/Porter/Talley as upper classman and a good recruiting class.

I agree on Haynes also and will add that despite what his stats say I don't feel comfortable with him in a tight game or down the stretch.

I am just curious...What would make you think this wouldn't be possible?
PG: Caver
SG: Hueitt/Godwin/Green
3: BJ/Talley
4: ?
5: Porter
No specific order but that is a ton of talent.
Sweet 16 favorite might be a stretch but I certainly see that year as a possible deep tournament team.

RE: BJ Stith
I'll let T-Mac answer for himself, but while I wouldn't say it is impossible, we have been a Top 25 team once in our history. We have never been a "Sweet 16 favorite." So, history is not on our side.
Furthermore, the three SGs you've mentioned, while I believe to be really talented, haven't played a single minute of college ball. You just never know until the lights shine down on them. Lastly, as of right now, that ? at the four (and behind Porter for depth) is Aaron Carver. Those questions need to be answered before I am comfortable calling us a Top 25 team in two year.
FWIW, though, the big old ? is exactly what I'd be pitching to David McCormack. He could come in here, have an immediate impact, but play on a team being led by senior guards/wings, where he wouldn't feel pressured to be the focal point his first year. Instead, he could play in front of the hometown crowd and take the program to new heights.

Unfortunately, I don't see McCormack staying home. I think Georgetown has a good shot with him.

The way they are possibly sneaking into the tourney and adding Waters will probably keep him there. That and his last name.

He said in two years, but I think your point is still valid. For the recored, I just said wow, never said impossible. I tend to believe nothing is impossible. But as coach mentioned, two of those positions are still question marks. And I like Porter's potential but I'm not convinced yet he will reach it.

I'm saying when Caver, BJ, Talley, and Porter are Seniors we'll have the best team we've ever had. ESPECIALLY, if we can land a stud PF soon. Those four guys are already ahead of almost every ODU great at their respective positions in their Sophomore year.

Overly positive is welcome, no matter how realistic/unrealistic it is. It provides balance to the board.
I think the NCAAs should be on everyone's radar starting next year. If we are Sweet 16 favorites I'll eat all of my socks.

No...Two years. It is possible. I may have extremely high expectations for this group, but if they progress as they should I don't see this being completely out of the question.

Oh, this is getting ridiculous.
The progression of a 150+ rpi team in a crappy conference is pretty much guaranteed to not be "NCAA tourney then sweet 16" but whatever helps you sleep at night.
I have seen absolutely nothing at all in 20+ games this season that makes me think next year losing our two best defenders and replacing them with a freshman and no one is going to make us an NCAA tourney team.
Not a single solitary shred of logic supports this conclusion.
