RE: MBB- Rice 1/26/17 Game
Hopefully after sweeping Rice this season some of JJ's detractors can put a few things to bed:
1) We should have hired Rhoades. What a joke. JJ has proven to be significantly better in all facets of coaching. Without Evans landing in his lap, he'd be garbage.
2) Rice is a better team this year than us. Uhhh, that was dumb.
3) Rice is trending up and we are trending down. Yeah, again...

To be fair, Evans didn't "land in his lap." Rhoades had been recruiting Evans for a long time and convinced Evans to follow him to Rice.

Yep Coach, right on.Sort of the same thing we have done with Hewitt, we have been recruiting him for quite a while.

Coach is right. Rhoades had been on Evans while he was in Richmond with the ugly guys. We were too, but give the guy credit, he somehow convinced him to go that far from home to play in front of lousy crowds on a lousy team. Add a shooter like Evans to this Monarch team and we'd be pretty good this season.

I'm surprised we played Brandon as much as we did, especially when we were up big. He was limping around a bit after some plays and still looks a little gimpy. Didn't seem to slow him down, but I hope they didn't rush him back. We're gonna need him to grind out the rest of the conf schedule.

Didn't want to start a new thread, but things seem to be getting chippy in the league. Boykins shove of Baxter was pretty bush league and started this whole thing. The pic of the La Tech bench afterwards is pretty funny...

The biggest take away I get from that is the stands - doesn't seem like very many people were there and the game was close. Why are we rewarding this city and their fan support with the conference tournament again?

I think that because the way the league bylaws are written regarding having to have men's and women's tournaments in the same city precludes most C-USA locations other than El-Paso and Birmingham. They don't appear to have any interest in a neutral site city either.

RE: MBB- Rice 1/26/17 Game
Our goal for right now is to get healthy and finish in the top 4. Then who knows?
Had we finished in the top 4 last year I believe we would have won the Tournament.

So are all those ejected, suspended for the next game? Seems terrible if LaTech has to play MTSU the whole game with 4 players.

Seeing that TV view of the La Tech - UAB brawl reminded me of something I meant to ask and forgot. I did not see nor listen to the UNCC game when Baker got into something, a fight, and was suspended. Could someone who saw/heard it enlighten me (and maybe others) on what happened?

Scrap for ball. Someone pushed their arm to brush Baker away. Looked like it night have caught him in the face a little. Wasn't super aggressive. He reacted by pushing the they away to try and pick up caver. His reaction caused a much bigger reaction. Led to a punch thrown and lots of shoving
Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

Yeah, he recruited him at VCU with VCU's success, reputation, and facilities as MAJOR selling points. Anyone think Rhoades would have been able to land Evans at Rice if he recruited him from start to finish at Rice?

Meh, it's fine. I'm all about letting MTSU get all the wins they can get and someone else (maybe us!) win the conference tournament and hope we can be a 2 bid league.
Edit - although that seems kind of tough. MTSU blew away their opponent last night and their RPI dropped by 3.

Loose ball around midcourt. Caver (I think) and Charlotte player (maybe 2) on the ground going after it. They end up in a pile. Ball called dead (can't remember if jump ball, foul or walk). Other players from both teams trying to help their teammates up. Charlotte player gives Baker a little shove, Baker shoves back harder, Charlotte player swings at Baker but he's too quick for that ****. Everybody's restrained pretty quickly. Coaches from both teams did a good job keeping players on the bench. One of our assistants (maybe Stith) came onto the floor and should probably have been ejected but wasn't. Baker and 2 Charlotte players ejected.
That's how I remember it.

Seeing the fight at La. Tech makes me appreciate the job our coaches did of keeping our players on the bench during the altercation at UNCC. That could have gotten out of hand in a hurry and caused major suspensions. It appears our coaches were ready for such an event and I thank them for their quick reactions.

Had Rhoades been at Rice, he probably wouldn't have had the connection to Evans and this area. Frankly, that's irrelevant to me. Rhoades recruited him and landed him. To say that "Evans landed in his lap" seems disingenuous, as he didn't stumble upon him in open gym.
Regardless, Evans is a really good player. He's just kinda stuck, because his skill set is that of a SG, but he's too small to play SG at the next level. The problem is that his conversion to PG isn't working out too well, at this point. I'm sure Rhoades wants to see him go to the next level, but right now, he might be sacrificing team success in order to prepare Evans for that.

Definitely. Although, with Tony Skinn as an assistant, surely, we can't be surprised that the entire La Tech team stormed the court.
