Rice seems like they can't match up with us very well, I would hope we could draw them in the tourney.

It is crazy to me that they didn't play more zone when it was clear man to man wasn't working.

A road win is a road win, rice isn't a good program but you gotta take them where you can get them.

Brandan stith is a big part of this team and we obviously look like a different team with him out there.

We didn't seem to miss Baker at all......not sure if that's something we should look at more this season or if this is a one off.

Your boy Rhoades...STINKS

Are you paying attention to the team he's playing with?

They have one "big man" in the starting lineup and he's 6"7 205. That's their CENTER.

Quite frankly the fact that they are 13-8 this year is absolutely astounding.

But he's in his 3rd year

Not astounding with wins over:
New Orleans
Delaware State
Incarnate Word
Houston Baptist
St. Edwards
Northwestern State
St. Thomas Texas

That counts for over half of their wins. You're reaching.

Yep, not very good, but some of our wins aren't much better.

He also has far less to work with as Rice was an awful program, had no fan support and no history of success outside of a season here or there.

But hey, Jeff jones and mike rhoades have both landed the exact same number of good freshmen big men.........zero.

My goodness, give the board a couple hours to enjoy a nice road win before trashing the team for no reason? No?

31 Harrison Brown G/F 6-4 200 SO/1L
0 Connor Cashaw G 6-5 205 SO/1L
11 Corey Douglas F 6-8 190 FR/HS

4 Egor Koulechov G/F 6-5 210 RS JR/1L

21 Chad Lott G 6-3 190 RS FR/SQ
3 Robert Martin F 6-6 220 FR/HS

20 Grant Youngkin G 6-3 180 FR/HS

6'7" or taller- 5 (Douglas, Drone, Harrison, Letcher-Ellis, Myer)

Rhoades CHOOSES to play a big and a stretch 4. Should we not play big because of Rhoades CHOICES? Even before Douglas got hurt, he only started one big.

I count 3 juniors/seniors on that roster, which means everyone else on that roster are Rhoades' RECRUITS.

Is this English?

Again, he's playing 4 guards and a 6"7 205 big.

He played 2 players off the bench double digit minutes.

They are one of the youngest teams in the country and still have a better record than us (yes mostly because their schedule sucked).

But again, we are an awful matchup for them because they simply cannot contain us physically which is a big part of why stith was 8-8 tonight. It's not rocket science.

well, i was under impressed with Tidewater product, Marcus Evans. He did not seem NBA-caliber in the two games where we whooped RICE this year.

Definitely doesn't look like he did last year. Way too many TOs. Sophomore Slump?

RE: MBB- Rice 1/26/17 Game
Good to see Haynes step up big time when we needed him. Sounded like he played solid defense (I was listening 94.1). If he can be consistent that's going to be the key. Same with BJ. Man, we need to keep Brandan healthy. Not that it matters, but I'm still convinced he's our best player this year and next year. We are just a different team when he's injured vs healthy. I really hope he doesn't miss any time next year...

1) they got out of the zone because both times we scored at the rim.
2) Evans whines a little too much for my liking.

I know, but that would be like running the ball twice in football and saying that Thad running game doesn't work because you only gained 4 yards. Rice was great for what was ailing us.

He had to come out of the zone. We busted it big time with the alley oops and open shots.

And they whined about every call and most were legit calls.

Roger that, but a better coach would have had them prepared to play zone. Didn't he look at any tape on us. Weak.

You're last point is spot on. I like Jordan, but we had more scorers on the court most of the night. Jordan is a good defender, but one dimensional offensively, which hinders the overall offense.

Yea, why is such a "great" recruiter not able to land decent players above 6'7"?

This is right. Randy played the best game of his ODU career, and yet, at least twice in the 2nd half he took terrible shots. Up big in the 2nd half, there is no reason to take out-of-sync jump shots early in the shot clock. Nonetheless, he is short on experience at this level, so we can live if he makes aggressive errors as long as he is also being productive.

RE: MBB- Rice 1/26/17 Game
Yep certainly. Certain matchups i would give Haynes more or Bakes mins.

The other thing about zone vs us is, we would demolish them on the offensive boards. They dont have our size/strength. Plus, you cannot play zone without length.

But you giys are right about Rhodes. Not sure what the fuss is; he runs schoolyard offensive sets like Shaka. He'll do ok if he can outrecruit and have better athletes.

1. We win on the road
2. We score 80
3. You still come up with a random complaint

Don't ever change man

Play Baker off the bench if the opponents leading score gets hot. Aside from that, we saw last night what kinda offense we can run without him on the court.

RE: MBB- Rice 1/26/17 Game
Really impressive road win, and I liked what I saw. However, I do have a couple of thoughts about how we wound up with the win that are not necessarily things that we can count on.

1. K+8 (their leading scoring) was oh-fer in the first half, and it was not all our defense. He was cold from beyond the arc and missed a lot of open shots.

2. Stith did have a great night. He was 8-8 from the field I believe, and we certainly cannot depend on him hitting 100% or anything near that on a regular basis.

3. Free throw shooting will continue to plague this team. If we had a ten-point lead instead of a twenty-point lead going into the last five minutes, we likely would have lost this game.

Here is what I did like. Great team win. Great effort. Great ball movement. Great game in the paint. Very much improved transition game. Great game by the bench (note that Stith was off the bench). Great defense.

Summary -- I very much liked what I saw, but some factors came together for us in a perfect storm that we just cannot expect every time we take the court. Good news was that we played a darn good game, took advantage of what we got, and came away with a road win when we really needed it.
