Why would we lose tie ins when they are struggling to find teams to fill bowl slots?
RE: ODU to the Effing Bahamas for our first bowl ever
I feel for ODU. We played our first bowl game in the comfort of our home city back in 1937. We actually played our first eight bowl games at the Sun Bowl beating the likes of USM, TCU, Florida St and Ole Miss among others. Too bad we haven't done anything else noteworthy in the last 50 years.

I left my extended family Christmas in Atlanta early to drive back to campus and get on a bus at midnight to ride through the night, barhopped in the snow, got our asses beat by CMU and got back on the bus less than 24 hours after arriving.
It was...less than ideal.
This sucks for you guys, but it happens, take a deep breath, you're being a bit dramatic.
Not pissed about it...just disappointed. The bus trip probably costs far less than 3k dollars.
Again, ecstatic for a bowl game. Just wish it was in the states where we could have shown our typical strong support.
As Bit-9 said, happy for the players though. Once in a lifetime opportunity, possibly.
Well of course it was cheaper, it was $100 for the bus, ticket, t-shirt, and share of a hotel room on the SGA sponsored bus.
It also wasn't the Bahamas.
Your first bowl sucks due to inaccesability, our first bowl sucked due to location and timing.
With that said, I was able to attend because I was a 23 year old college student, cheaper or not, for many people with families Dec 26th in Detroit wasn't doable.
RE: ODU to the Effing Bahamas for our first bowl ever
The Bahamas bowl got decent TV ratings but the stadium only holds a max of 15,000 so it's obviously not meant to be a highly attended game. I would be disappointed with Bahamas or Hawaii as a CUSA team and hope those two get reconsidered. As a side note, with talks of possible bowl game trading, I'm wondering if the conference can get LaTech a better opponent than a fill-in that is waiting them at the HoD bowl and slip UNT into that game to play a South Alabama or ULL. Would be a better match-up for us than LaTech.
RE: ODU to the Effing Bahamas for our first bowl ever
WKU and MT has had to go to the Bahamas this past two years, I figured ODU was headed there since traveling fans was a unknown. This sucks for the fans, but it's a trip of a lifetime for the players and it's been a well televised game
RE: ODU to the Effing Bahamas for our first bowl ever
Yeah - no way I'm making the Bahamas right before Christmas. Getting married in January too. Just not an option.. Then again, prob wouldnt have made New Orleans either because I have a trip there early next year.

Because they will look to guarantees with lower P5 teams to fill seats. AND because when some of the bowl contracts expire, ESPN, who owns many of them, will probably cut back to stop the financial bleeding.

ODU and us fans should be proud of the season and the chance to extend it. But it's a little dispiriting to be going to the same bowl at 9-3 that they might well have gone to at 6-6.
Don't you guys have 2 FCS wins in your 9-3 record?

A word of wisdom for the ODU fans..... Lots of WKU fans spent the money and bought tickets for thre game even though we could not go, WKU had the tickets donated to the youth and locals of Nassau community and WKU sent us back a commemorative ticket. That's how you show fan support to better your position for your next bowl game

Brilliant idea! Hope ODU admin can put together something similar.

RE: ODU to the Effing Bahamas for our first bowl ever
I would hate for FAU to even to go the Bahamas bowl just because how expensive it is even for the short trip.
You have to stay at a hotel that's around 500 bucks a night and a flight from Ft. Lauderdale to Nassau is still like 400 bucks.
I have always said I don't get why the bowl doesn't do a trip that includes staying in South Florida and having one of the gambling day cruises take people over to the game and back after?
Do it as a package.

How do you go about that? Because I would definitely do that to support. Remember the process?

One, Hampton. ODU used to play nothing BUT FCS schools, but in their defense, they were an FCS school.

Most of the newer bowls were not created by ESPN, but by G5 conferences to ensure their qualified teams get a post season location. G5s would still do their own thing, see Cure bowl as example.

Great Idea but we still need a passport. How about annexing them?(Not my idea, one of our fans suggested that)

Apparently if the cruise starts and ends at the same port — a closed-loop cruise — you're OK with a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID
