RE: Going to the Polls
Well did advance voting in Georgia today with wife. As it was about 7:15 am, no lines. About 3 people at the dozen voting machines, about 6-10 people behind us filling out paperwork. Georgia makes you fill out this form with all the information that's on your voter registration card and in their computers-name, address, date of birth, county (as if they don't know what county it is). Really kind of ridiculous waste of time. Bureaucracy.

Wasn't very painful. Everybody there was Black, but my county is about 70% Black. This was one of 3 locations open on Saturday, one in the 99+% Black part of the county, one in a mixed area, but closer to the whitest part of the county and this one centrally located where everything south is nearly 100% Black.

Never waited more than a couple of minutes on voting day or at early voting. Voted yesterday and walked right up with zero wait.

Oh Silver loves to crunch those numbers. Here is an interesting one from Dr. Bitzer. Absentee (mail in) show that up to this point that Rs (while higher than Ds) are down to just 59% of what they were in 2012. Ds and Is are both over 100%. I'm not sure what to make of it, perhaps a lack of Republican enthusiasm? A negative Trump affect? Nothing?

My opinion is a lot of former R"a are now registered I's. Being a republican is not exactly a popular thing right now, anti democrat, yes, but not a card carrying GOP member. Also if you are a registered I in NC you get to pick your primary which I think is a nice little perk

Bitzer has some stats on that. If I'm not mistaken the I breakdown was about evenly split between those that strongly tended to vote D or R. I'm not sure about people changing R to I though, maybe so. As far as the being popular though I can confidently say in rural NC Republican is the thing to be. Us Democrats, especially us white males, are looked at as at best an odd curiosity, at worst evil idiots.
I highly doubt those stats. What is the basis for them? All the Trumpeters are independents. Who are the independents are for Hillary? I don't know anyone for her that is an independent, only democrats. Trump and Johnson have the independents.

Dr. Bitzer from Catawba College. He does a ton of research on NC politics. You can check out his website, http://www.oldnorthstatepolitics.com

It wasn't specific to Trump, but to previous elections. Anecdotal examples aren't very reliable and I'm wondering how you would know the registration status of all the people you know?

RE: Going to the Polls
NC early voting, combined absentee and in person as of this morning has 180k Democrats, 107k Republicans, 90k unaffiliated. Urban precincts account for about 50% of the vote. Females account for about 55% of the early voters. In many counties there is only one polling place open during the week so rural early voting will be utilized less often.

NC should be allowed to vote until january. or until hillary has more votes than trump, whichever comes first.

otherwise, it's all racist.

If anyone wants a breakdown of NC early voting so far read this post

http://www.oldnorthstatepolitics.com/201...s.html?m=1

In short in comparison to 2012: overall numbers down 3% total. Both parties are down a fair bit while unaffiliateds have skyrocketed. White vote is up while the African American vote is down

Here is one more early voting NC round up.

I know absentee ballots for GOP is down but if you look at the fact that unaffiliateds are way up and a key Blue Strong hold Durham county is showing a (un)surprising lack of enthusiasm so far in terms of severely depressed numbers, I gotta think Trump looks pretty good in NC

Good points but it is still so early in the process. Thanks for the link.

RE: Going to the Polls
They are reporting 1 to 2 hour waits in Wake County.

"To date in Wake County, black voters are turning out for early voting at a high rate. They make up one out of five registered voters in the county but one out of every four early voters so far.

Women voters have an even bigger edge. They outnumber men in Wake County by about 15 percent, but their turnout in early voting so far is double that margin."

Read more at http://www.wral.com/throngs-of-early-vot...XKwM.99ake County (Raleigh) is reporting a very large turn out. Lines are reported to average 1 to 2 hours.

How in the heck do they track race on ballots cast? Is that an official stat? Why should they be able to track that?

Kansas only allows very low alcohol products to be sold in grocery stores. If you want real beer, wine, liquor you have to go to a liquor store. We moved there from Ohio and were shocked to find you couldn't buy beer at a grocery.

Haha.. well we do now. The state law was changed a year or two ago to allow it. But each community has to have a refferendum to allow it in thier communities. The muncipalities voted on it a while ago, and it took affect July 1st of this year. The people in unicoporated parts of the county get to vote on it now to allow in grocery stores that dont lie within a city. This is just grocery stores, no walgreens, gas stations, or convience stores. Im not even sure if walmart has it, but I havent really looked in there.

Still cant sell it on Sundays, though.

Registration.

How do you think the General Assembly was able to mold the since ruled unconstitutional voting law to reduce minority voter participation?
