If you want to see why they get no respect just look at that.
My point is that they should get respect instead of lame excuses after they just beat the P5 team. Also, 95%+ of those games are home games for the P5 team, all the more reason to give respect when it's due.
It's simple statistics.
These are kids. Any given team will win at least one out of ten games played with the same opponent.
I'll freely admit to the fact that WKU, if we played ten games, would win at least one.
But, does that one game cropping up show real superiority?

For that year it might. And there are plenty of P5 teams that have no particular reason to assume they even have a 50% chance of winning against a lot of G5 teams. E.g. Oklahoma State vs. CMU, they just played a close game the year before. Purdue and Northwestern have lost to multiple MAC teams just in the last few years.
It isn't simple statistics.

On the one hand, yes, there are some G5 teams every year with more than enough talent to challenge most P5 teams and beat them with no help at all from their opponent.
But at the same time you also have to acknowledge that yes, P5 teams rarely play their absolute best ball for the G5/FCS teams they play in OOC and bowl games. These are 19 year old kids, ego is a factor wether it should be or not and it drives coaches and fans nuts to see their team playing lazy
Well, except at BYU, where freshmen would be old enough to drink if they were allowed to drink.

Losing to Scottie Montgomery's ECU leaves Dave Doeren's team looking down an improbable road to the postseason.
The biggest missed opportunity?
"There's a lot of them," Doeren said. "The wide open wheel route down the sideline is a touchdown, the field goals -- we've made those over and over in practice -- make one of those and it's overtime."
So we didn't beat them, they just failed to execute.
Never mind that we also had a wide open receiver drop a sure touchdown and missed the same field goal attempt twice (before and after NC State ran into our kicker). We played sloppy at times, too. But it's only the Wolfpack's errors that led to us winning... and then, there's also the assumption by Doeren that if they had reached overtime that they would have won.
I hope South Carolina messes up and let's us win this coming Saturday.
North Carolina, the state where four Power5 schools compete for the title of 3rd best football team in the state.

One thing that might not have been brought up is that most of the time, the G5 has to play the P5 on the road. So the head to head record really might not be a fair assessment.

Funny stuff. Doeren doesn't mention how our coaches made halftime adjustments widening WR alignments. This caused their DB's and entire defense to spread with LB's deeping their alignments because they started cheating the line of scrimmage in the 2nd quarter. Also started moving Zay Jones around to prevent bracketing of coverage on him. Results were Nelson going 17 for 18 passing in the 2nd half in the passing game, our running game pounding it down their throats, and oline wearing their defensive front down. Commentators mentioned over and over how well our team was conditioned. I guess they gave all this to us too. Excuses are for losers!!!!

What makes this a bit ironic is that in the UTK game against App State, the Vols didn't really beat App State, Appy State just failed to execute on two kicks.

At least NC State had the guts to play @ECU, instead of hiding out in their own stadium for the entire OOC season. Okie State did too, playing @CMU last year.

I just always assume any media pundit talking, writing, posting or commenting on a G5 program is angling to quickly get a job talking, writing, posting or commenting on a P5 program.
With that reality, who wants to burn the bridge to a future P5 golden ticket by talking ill of the P5?

They don't have to talk ill of the P5, just say the G5 team played a really good game, end of story. Chances are very good BOTH teams made plenty of mistakes, some more obvious than others.

PAC 12 North schools are not afraid to play at the Smurf Turf in Boise.
