I recall some people wanted an entire new stadium instead of just an EZF. That's not the same as hating on the EZF itself. Also, some thought that some of the funds should go to higher coaching salaries, but again that's not opposition to the project itself.
ETA: not trying to resurrect those debates here.

Yeah, that's not the way I remember it, but I am not going to spend the day researching old posts.
let's just both be happy (all of us be happy?) we have it now.

Regardless. The facility looks amazing, the players and coaches seem to be very happy and grateful to use it, and I can see this now becoming a recruiting tool. It was a very impressive facility and it looks like the type of facility our players deserve when they give so much of their time and effort to the university.
What I liked most about it, is that it looks like it will age well. Some of the other locker rooms we've seen recently (thinking of SMU and UH), look shiny and new, but cheap and like they won't hold up for more than a decade. I think that ours will continue to pay dividends for a long time.
But I do hope there is a plan in place to continue to modify and update the equipment and facilities as technology advances, and that we aren't expecting to not touch the darn place for another 25 yrs.

Depends on maintenance funding. Always a problem, campus-wide. Donors contribute for shiny new buildings and artwork, but there's nothing glamorous and no naming rights for keeping stuff in good repair.

Disagree. Those stripper poles will hold up just fine with a fresh coat of WD-40 every year.

So there's an opening with naming rights for the OptimisticOwl Janitorial Fund?

Which I hope we had the foresight to address. I could see if a portion of the overall total for funding went to a maintenance endowment or something like that.
Anyone know about the nitty gritty details like that?

So true! I laughed out loud when I saw the redone UH locker room. It was truly awful. Although some young people would probably love it.
I happened to stumble upon someone's drone footage that they took of Rice Stadium a couple of weeks ago. If you haven't seen the EZF in person, this gives you a good idea of how it fits into the context of the rest of the stadium.

I hate those blue end zones (glad they got rid of one, but the rest of that stadium is classic and a great place to watch a game
I know it would cost a ton, but what Rice really needs to do is put in a ton of chairs that are super wide like first class airline seat wide with cup holders and make it the most comfortable stadium on earth to watch a game with plenty of personal "space" for each person
Since we have the room, that is a good suggestion to look into. Maybe make every other seat a large one.
That's been discussed. The issue is apparently the distance between the seats (vertically, not horizontally). But I agree that we could take a queue from the airlines and figure out how to put a wide comfortable seat in.

It is definitely something we are in a better position to be able to offer to fans than most other D-I schools.
Flashback to summer of 2005 when the wooden bleachers were finally removed and replaced by the aluminum ones we have now (plus, a good pressure-washing was done- which should be regular maintenance each season, IMHO.) Also, I actually liked and miss the sine waves around the stadium "bath ring" as they made for a much more festive atmosphere than plain gray, and they were so 'Rice.' I can't say the same about the yellow, of course.
