Coach Keatts
Coach, We love the passion that you've brought to my alma mater! Love it!! Keatts has really brought UNCW back to where we all want it to be...a factor in college basketball. We are now relevant once again and his passion and charisma has done it. We are all very proud to be UNCW basketball fans. Not Carolina or Duke fans, UNCW fans. Thanks Coach for doing all of this!! We all want Coach K to be our coach for as long as he wants to coach us...so Coach, don't bite at some crazy stuff okay? Wait for your perfect job or DON"T leave!! It's good for you to stay and make this your home for a good while. Everybody loves you as our coach and you're looking good for the future and your job is VERY secure so enjoy being THE MAN. That doesn't happen much in life my friend so just understand that. I've been around a time or 2 and know that when it's good, it's good...that's all I'm writing here.

Heading forward the next step is to get back and advance. How does that happen? Well, we have great guards and wings and we have to take the next step down low and this club has to stop fouling and get our guys to move their feet and make teams beat us legit with contested shots. It's a process and Keatts is the guy, I'm convinced. We are all behind you Kevin because we love you being our coach! You're the man to get UNCW to the next level, I'm convinced of that. Great job thus far and I hope that you finish the job. It's not going to be easy to get back, but we've got a Very dynamic guard coming in, a Nice piece at PG/combo and a Very good big rolling in. Best of luck Coach, we are really excited for our future!!04-cheers

My friend Ty that played at Liberty told me to say Hi! He told me that he knows you and wishes you the best!!

RE: Coach Keatts
You couldn't be more right. Kevin has built his career around player development at Hargrave. That was his job. For those who have had the opportunity to get to know him, he is passionate about what he does, and his passion is infectious. You can tell he believes in his players, and you can tell his players believe in him. But, beyond that, he is available and he knows how to connect with anyone who has an interest in the program. From young to old, from knowledgeable to novice, he devotes his time and attention to all, and makes them feel special.

UNCW is a basketball school in search of a basketball culture. Thursday was the first step in building that culture back. Words cannot describe the scene in Trask coliseum. Camraderie, enthusiasm, connectedness, electricity. Nobody who attended seemed to notice that there were no players, there were no coaches, and there was no game being played on that floor. We cheered, and chanted, and did our best to will our coach and players on with our energy and enthusiasm. When we left, we had enjoyed a game time experience even though there was no game on the floor. A new tradition has been established, and Trask should be packed for the CAA tournament and the NCAA's in the future.

Our new Chancellor is from Brazil, and I can tell you he and his wife were completely overwhelmed by what just occurred. They had no idea that the basketball culture in North Carolina and UNCW is like the soccer culture in Brazil. For you North Carolinians who have a few years on you, you remember the ACC tournament as a kid in High School. And you likely have the same memory I did even though I went to HS in Greensboro where it was played. We didn't do school, we did the ACC tournament. Televisions were rolled into class, and that was our education for the week. It was an education far beyond anything that could be taught. For that week, we were knit together throughout the state. We all shared the same experience, and all could participate in a game that most of us wish we could play in. Hero's were made, and allegiances forged. You HAD to have a team, and that team became your identity. It meant something to be a Carolina fan, or a State fan. It meant something to be a Duke fan.

And now, we need it to mean something to be a Seahawk fan throughout the state. We have our own identity, and Kevin Keatts is the man who can create that. He can create his own program. He can be the Dean Smith of Carolina. He can become the Coach Valvano of NC State. He can become the coach K...of UNCW.

The fans are here waiting. The alumni are in place throughout the country. The students are ready. And the mecca of basketball in North Carolina is ready to embrace a new legend at UNCW.

LET'S DO THIS....

RE: Coach Keatts
I don't know how much our Chancellor was into basketball in Brazil, but I can tell you it's a pretty big deal down there. Nothing like soccer by a long shot, but pretty big. I got to go play there in 1990 and they have a lot of club teams.
And, I have noticed the smile on our Chancellor's face when he is around the program. I truly believe he is totally bought into our desire to raise, not only basketball, but all of athletics to higher levels. That is key to getting there. We needed a Chancellor, like Lutzie (sp) to go all in. And I believe we now have that.

Just read an article in Pittsburgh newspaper that has Keatts on the list there. It also mentions his possible involvement in the Louisville recruiting scandal. Interesting to see that it will play a role in his future and could be a rose for UNCW basketball. It is a pretty good job and I think he would leave in a heartbeat for a program like Pitt.

Why not link the article? I found a similar article, they seem to think they can get Sean Miller. Joe Dooley is a name i like there as well.

Coach Keatts
IMO, Keatts could do much better than Pitt if he holds off a couple more (or more) years due to the success UNCW is cultivating and likely to continue.

Way to misrepresent what the article says of his involvement. It does list him as a potential replacement though not sure if this means that he is on the list or not but at least a name that must out there if he is on the newspaper list of four people

http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/Pitt/...1603220110

Quote:He hasn’t yet been connected to the Louisville recruiting scandal, which allegedly took place during his time there, but if the ongoing NCAA investigation implicates him, Pitt would be faced with a public relations disaster and, likely, a new coaching search.

It is a list printed in the paper. Not sure how you think that misrepresents anything. Maybe you have trouble reading? It has been acknowledged by Louisville,he was the head recruiter there at the time. I am sure he and Slick Rick are a part of the investigation and they have of course denied it.
So tell me what is misrepresented here?

Outside the Lines did a report on the scandal, and Keatts was not mentioned once. Not to mention, the scandal had begun before Keatts arrived as an assistant/top recruiter.

Until there's actual, tangible information on his involvement, its a misrepresentation. But keep on pretending you aren't simply trying to stir sh*t up like you are apt to do. Way to derail yet another thread.

The misrepresentation is what I just bolded. You say it mentions his possible involvement in the recruiting scandal which most people would infer to mean that he has been connected somehow but in reality, the article says that "He hasn’t yet been connected to the Louisville recruiting scandal" It does say if he later is implicated, there will be issues but it does not link him to involvement at this point.

Doesn't mean he was or was not involved. The investigation may bring out that information or it may be inconclusive. I am just saying that your comment was more slanted than the article is.

I don't see Sean Miller leaving Arizona for Pitt. Why leave Arizona and the Pac 12 for the mid-tier ACC school. As Pitino told Keatts, you want to go somewhere you have a chance of winning. It's hard to breakthrough UNC, Duke, L'ville, 'Cuse, and UVa.

Dixon just left for a sub-par job; coaches around the country will take notice that their coach left for TCU.

Sean Miller is not going back to Pittsburgh that is a lock. Jeff Goodman thinks that until the Louisville mess is finished Keatts probably will be on the sidelines of the coaching change game

It would be ideal if the investigation takes, say, 5 years and results in Keatts not being involved at all. lol.

Agree maybe his brother Archie would be interested, but even then Dayton is a cushy job where success can be had, Pitt is much more challenging since realignment. I also imagine Pitt is looking at Bryce Drew.
