They have, based on enrollment and classroom ratios, about 82 teachers. Adding a nurse should be something they can afford.

But but but.....

Therefore, regardless fo Flint's financial situation, this shouldn't have any consequence on whether or not Flint's public schools should have nurses.

Nope. If they don't put anything into the revenue pool, they really shouldn't get anything out of it.

The fact that their school didn't have a nurse is a direct result of incompetence in the public school system and the lack of accountability within the administrative ranks.

Do you have information to confirm those observations? I have never heard of a state denying funds for public schools to cities that do not contribute to the tax base. Was this part of they being taken over by the state?

The first statement is an opinion.

The second statement is a fact.

But you do realize that places with higher property taxes pay higher for a reason, right? I purposefully live in an expensive place because the school district isn't a giant turd and my taxes actually pay for something. So do many other people who don't want their children to be susceptible to the pond scum of the inner cities.

It is my understanding that public school funding comes directly from property taxes. However those monies are collected by the state and redistributed to the districts.

Who exactly is the pond scum that you speak of. This is an interesting phrase given the current situation there at Flint. I certainly hope you aren't talking about the children.

Children are simply products of their parents. Take it for what it's worth. I imagine the nuclear family unit has already been destroyed in that city.

I'm haven't blamed anyone for anything. I'm simply asking why Flint Public School districts do not have school nurses.

I would think that given the current situation, that more people would be concerned with the children who have been exposed to lead poisoning and that a school nurse would be on the front lines of this situation.

They didn't have nurses because of misappropriation of funds by the school administrators. What about this do you not understand?

Not only does Flint get money, they get a disproportionately LARGE amount of money. And they piss it away like most other cities do.

Evidently Michigan is not like NC. That would not matter here. The nurses are independent of the school system. The Health Departments supply them.

And I would think after decades and decades of inept management by the democrat party, that these residents would say enough is enough. The money is there in the district...you have to ask the officials where it has gone. That is something for the people of Flint to do. Maybe they just don't care or just like it.

Do you have any evidence of misappropriation of funds? If you do, you should post it because someone should lose their job over this.

We need to blow this wide open and find out what's going on in that city if it is going to exist in the future. We are talking about an entire generation of children here.

No fit. Property taxes are NOT collected by the state. For example, my property taxes are mailed directly to the county I live in - not the state, the county would distribute the money to the school districts. Does the state supply any money to the local district, yes - but not the bulk of the funding. The bulk of the funding is local.

They get 14.5k per student (way above the state average) and don't have any nurses. What more evidence do you require?

I doubt that this is enough evidence to force anyone to lose their job. Misappropriation of funds sounds like something someone should lose their job over don't you think?

IF I lived in flint and I see better schools in suburbia that costs less money to run, then one can only assume that there is misappropriation or incompetence. Either way, the residents should look to their inept city government and make a real change.

Yes. I'd fire the entire Flint administration.

Oh wait, they pretty much can't be fired regardless of performance.

Here nurses are school district employees. They earn state retirement but are paid by, get their benefits from, and are subject to the authority of the school district. Salary is determined by the district. There is a lead nurse for the entire district that is in charge of all of the school nurses.

So the state determines the formula and distributes the funds according to that formula and other factors. Isn't that what I was saying?
