Flint Public schools have no nurses
Since Flint has been in the news lately, national news organizations have been doing stories about Flint's situation.

I was watching a town hall meeting about the crisis in Flint and they were discussing what was being done in public schools for the children. During this discussion, it was mentioned that the public schools in Flint do not have on duty nurses on the payroll.

Being a school teacher myself, I could not believe that this was even possible or legal.

How is it that Flint doesn't have a single nurse assigned to any of their public schools?

RE: Flint Public schools have no nurses
Because Flint has inept leadership and has for decades. Because Flint is a steaming pile of turds that has less and less revenue as it's disposal every year because of rampant unemployment and deteriorating infrastructure. Because the public school system in general is a patty of cow flop which exercises absolutely no accountability within its own ranks. Because public schools are ran by the government.

Why is it that liberals are so shocked that their ilk are running metropolitan areas across the US into the ground. Conservatives have been saying this for years. You pick out any metro area and I will show you a suburbia that has better schools for less money.

But public schools are run by the state. Even if everything you say about Flint is true, this would not effect whether or not the public schools do or do not have nurses.

Public schools are run by local school districts.

Of course not but the funds to pay for those nurses would come from the state just as the they do for teachers. Therefore, regardless fo Flint's financial situation, this shouldn't have any consequence on whether or not Flint's public schools should have nurses. Unless they were being punished.

Ummmm no. They are not. Schools are run by school districts.

Flint Community Schools is a school district headquartered in Flint, Michigan, United States. For the 2011-2012 school year, the Flint Community Schools had both middle schools, four elementary schools and one high school placed in the bottom 5% of all schools in the State of Michigan based on student achievement and attendance.[2] The school district accommodated a total student population of about 30,000 students. It included two early childhood education centers, 18 elementary schools, and three secondary schools. Other buildings under its operation include the Genesee Area Skill Center, and 2 alternative education facilities.

what Fit is trying to do is shift the blame towards the state government, and say "You see, Republicans are to blame!"

Funding for all public schools come from the states. At least that is the way it works in my state. Is Michigan different?

Actually, no again. Some funding comes from the state via the federal government...but, most funding comes from the local area through property taxation. But don't worry, the state funnels more of their federal money to Flint because they can't get their act together.

The question you should have for the Democrats in Flint is, "Where is the money?"

Nope. If they don't put anything into the revenue pool, they really shouldn't get anything out of it.

The fact that their school didn't have a nurse is a direct result of incompetence in the public school system and the lack of accountability within the administrative ranks.

In NC...The nurses are supplied by Public Health on the State level. I have no idea how Mich. does it.

Do you have information to confirm those observations? I have never heard of a state denying funds for public schools to cities that do not contribute to the tax base. Was this part of they being taken over by the state?

Flint spends 14.5K *per student*. The Rest of Michigan averages less than 10K. Flint central high has 1,450 students. That means the school receives more than 21 million dollars per year.

They have, based on enrollment and classroom ratios, about 82 teachers. Adding a nurse should be something they can afford.

The first statement is an opinion.

The second statement is a fact.

But you do realize that places with higher property taxes pay higher for a reason, right? I purposefully live in an expensive place because the school district isn't a giant turd and my taxes actually pay for something. So do many other people who don't want their children to be susceptible to the pond scum of the inner cities.
