RE: MTSU at Marshall
I distinctly remember reading/hearing somewhere that when we hired Dan D'Antoni other CUSA coaches were happy, and were clearly not impressed.

Wonder who it was that had that sentiment (I don't have a link but I remember hearing it somewhere)...and wonder how they feel now?

Yes.

Whichever team was coached by D'Antoni would beat whichever team was coached by Herrion.

I'm betting Kermit Davis is impressed right about now :)

I just feel it was a better top to bottom line up. The 11-12 lineup with Kane, Pitts, Johnson, Tinnon, Pena, Goff, Coleman, etc. was very experienced, had good size, much better inside presence, but still had good outside skill.

It may have been better top to bottom, but they didn't play this style. They could have.

No worries brother. I get you. Let's see how far we can take this team. Maybe it will be a fun debate to look at down the road.

This team is so much different from the team that gave up a 16 point lead to Tennessee. Middle Tennessee was out of gas in the second half and it showed. Marshall played an offense that ran MT all over the court. Time for the Blazers!

You can take Coleman out of there. He was already gone by this time in the season. As much as I liked Goff, Kelly would dominate him inside. As far as the outside this team has Loop even though down, CJ Burkes, Taylor, and Elmore. The 11-12 team had Pitts, and Pana.

I believe this team would beat the 11-12 team by 13 or more. Its a more complete team across the board. And I loved Pena, Pitts, Johnson (even though Id already lost respect for him).

He seriously needed a hug tonight. He called one timeout just to clear out the bench area to make room for his conniption fit.

At one point with about 15 mins to go in the game Davis looked like he was gonna have a stroke....

With Tinnon, Spikes and Goff the 11-12 team would have dominated the boards and in an uptempo game like this year's squad plays, Kane, Pitts and Shaq would have been tough to contain.

I'm not taking anything away from this year's team, but the conference was a lot tougher in 11-12, so it's hard to draw direct comparisons.

This years team would have done to 11-12 team what they have done over and over this year and that run the other guys big men to death. The only Kane led team that would have had a shot at this year's squad was his Sophomore season when we went 22-14. I do think this years squad and the 11-12 squad would have been a dog fight to the finish.

If you think it would be a dogfight to the finish, why did you say a post ago that they would beat them by 13?

It's all speculation, of course, but Tinnon wouldn't have tired out. He was a lean 6'8" rebounding machine and I just like the veteran leadership on that team and the bench depth. This team, especially Taylor, is prone to foul trouble and if Taylor and/or Kelly are riding the bench with foul trouble the 11-12 team would take advantage. It would be a very fun game to watch.

Davis said some really nice things about us in the post-game. I mean really nice things. He could have been a little salty after that game and I don't think anyone would have faulted him. Class act, imo.

Oh my gosh...Tinnon. I forgot about him.

If we had Tinnon on this year's team we would be a machine.

Have to be Tinnon's first year eligible. He didn't do so well after that first year. And all you have to do to beat Kane was get in his head and make him make his own mistakes and crap-talk the refs. I know he got better and he was amazing and all that, but we're talking about Herrion coaching and these guys (2016) could have made them fold with their playstyle. I don't know if it would be enough but I think they'd have a good chance at winning. Honestly, I feel Pitts would be their greatest challenge to overcome. He was very good at getting to the basket through about any defense.

GG MTSU, our guys just hit more tonight. MU's D was as good as it's been since DD began coaching us, really disrupted Giddy Potts till late in the 2nd half. Fortunate to win it, look forward to our next meeting. GL the rest of the season.

Just because it would be a dog fight doesn't mean they were going to be tied at the end of the game.
