NBR - Memphis coach fired
Per treat of Memphis reporter Calkins.

Rumors earlier of Pearl to Memphis..

That would kill Tenn soul.

If true at end of season would that help UAB?

IMHO it would remove big media competition

Someone out there has a fake Twitter account of me saying Pastner has been relieved of duties. I didn't tweet that and don't believe that.

No way he gets removed in season. I do think this is his last year without a turn around. He will probably be better starting from scratch. I could see Pearl going there. Would be a crushing blow to a promising Auburn rebuilding project.

Pearl would be better served to stay in the SEC. He could replace Calipari at Kentucky when Calipari decides to move on.

Josh Pastner is a really good guy. One of the most genuine and nicest coaches I've met. With that said, I can see why they want him gone.

I'm a genuinely nice guy. Doesn't make my coach material.

Pearl is a Memphis fan pipe dream. He is not leaving the SEC to coach in the AAC. When the Big12 decided not to expand, Memphis lost any carrot they had for Pearl.

The New Memphis AD has de emphasized basketball in favor of football. the Memphis job is not whT it used to be. Since they hired their new AD, Memphis didn't take their band and cheerleaders to the conference tournament, they canceled their glitzy Midnight Madness and they no longer fly exclusively charter flights.

Reports today that there were about 4000 fans at the game today. And they will probably lose 4 starters next year. Pearl is not going to step into that mess.

Memphis just lost to an ECU team that was 0-7 on the road. It's bad up there. I think Pastner's gone at season's end.

RE: NBR - Memphis coach fired
Unless Memphis gets into the Big 12, I don't see Bruce Pearl taking them seriously as an option. He is showing signs of making the grade in the SEC (including forcing a change of coaches at Bama) so an AAC job would not be considered a promotion. Do the dissatisfied Memphis fans want, and think they can get, another Calipary?

Pastner's future at Memphis probably will be based upon his recruiting class (HS and JUCO) and who he has coming back next season.

Nine players have transferred from his program in the past few years, most of them highly recruited players. Nice and genuine doesn't cut it in Memphis.

Which is why I can understand why they want him gone.

Pastner had a couple of really good recruiting classes, and then the quality tailed off with players not coming or leaving once there. What reasons are being given around the program for this decline? The HC in all sports gets the blame for such declines, but is that the whole story?.

I agree...why would BP leave the SEC for the AAC?...they got exactly 2 bids to the NCAA Tourney last year...not to mention Cincy and Uconn can't wait to get into another conference.

Remember back in '85 when Coach Bartow interviewed with UK?...he backed off when everyone thought Lute Olson was their man then things warmed up again when Olson removed his name for consideration...things got VERY TENSE on Southside for a hot minute
