Per Citadel board - Maurice Drayton (DC) staying at Citadel and promoted to "Assistant head coach" with payraise.

Suspect much of the defense was designed by Houston, so more interested in who he gets for OC. Hope we can fill these positions before signing day.

Yeah, it definitely seems like 4-2-5 is going to be the base. 3-4 was mentioned afterwards but I don't think it is as much of an emphasis as EW put it. He was pretty stubborn about it. Houston doesn't seem like that at all from his answers. Houston's D philosophy seems a LOT more flexible.

What was weird was the way in 2014, after about 6 games, EW would make adjustments to the D early on, usually by the end of the first quarter. 2015 he got stubborn as he!! and I couldn't ever see anything noticeable from the first to the forth quarters. Hence, RU ran all over us from beginning until the end.

I had some hope things would change with a new DC, but read on the TSU boards he plans to use the 3-4 there too, LOL.

According to Football Scoop we were in the mix as well. I hope this does not mean we are going on the cheap again for assistants. I believe I saw that Drayton was just south of 100K last year so I am guessing he is well over that now.

I saw where the Tex St. OC and DC both made around 130k last year. They might be FBS but sure don't pay like it.

On top of that, if I heard it right, Drayton is a Citadel alum, so it would have taken a lot to convince him to leave.

Anyone know how much Durden is making at Chatt?

Is it possible he could return as OC?

I thought they were public university so I tried to search for it, but couldn't find anything.

For some reason I keep thinking Durden could be the OC

When I saw he was on campus Monday, I wondered if he might actually be here regarding the OC position instead of the HC position.

Familiar with the area, think his kids are still in Hburg. Has had success at Chatt.

Didn't some one earlier this week say his daughter is a student-athlete at UTC?
His son played QB at Cornell at least one season (was listed as a FR 2012 roster, not listed after that)

If you bring him here because of all that then he should of been the head coach , unless his interview was really bad.

That line of thinking isn't really accurate. He has been a successful play caller at Chatt and JMU for the most part. That doesn't mean he was the most qualified candidate to be Head Coach. It could mean he would be the most qualified OC hire.

It's an opinionated line of thinking. And he actually got an interview for the position so someone else might have thought that as well. The general the trend with good OC's and DC's they become HC's.

Would like some of that purple punch you've been drinking ... top paid FBS DC in the country ~ $1.4M, or was this just a counter-example for HR?

Durden as OC seems pretty solid, not sure if we could motivate him enough to come back to his prior role here.

Bud Foster can become a head coach if he wanted to, but some people just don't want the headache. Our new coach is a former DC. Our ex coach was a former DC.

He's tried before and been rejected. But mostly he's comfortable because he has a record a mile long and VT/Blacksburg covers for him.
