BTW, one player we have not talked about (transfer sitout) is Quaran Jones. As I read the media guide he will have ONE year eligibility (he had a redshirt year at D-II Findlay).

He did play D-II ball and could very well have been talented enough to give us some minutes this year if he was eligible. Probably would have gotten the minutes Blake Brown got.

So for next year I add three (LWH, PF; Madray, C; and Jones, PF).

So I count: Thompson, LWH, Bond with Madray, Price, Nobles, Jones, etc. off the bench. (I count 2 at each position).

Very deep up front.

I believe we still need a top flight shooter and a PG. I think Toney may be adequate for now but we need a leader to go with Thompson.

Hopefully Thompson will attract some more legitimate freshman players that can make a couple NCAA runs.....

It may depend how much PR we and Thompson get in March...

If we get some ESPN air time we could become attractive to a recruit.

Steve, I agree.....we (EMU) must capitalize on having Lee and Thompson arguably the top two players in the MAC getting us to a minimum of an NIT bid. I hope that we do but Murphy's past teams have been talented but only finished .500 in conference. We are very athletic so pushing the ball and running up tempo bodes well for this team. Y'all know how I feel about the zone.

Go EMU!

Interesting article even ranked number 1 in Division II Juco doesn't mean you have Division I basketball players that are ready to play at that level:

Since he qualified out of high school does you mean 2016? or 2017 when he is a sophomore?

Don't know... He was borderline (or actually D-I but he may have messed up his chances) so it shouldn't take too much to get him back on D-I radar for 2016 or next year.

My wild guess: He'll see what kind of D-I offers he gets and decide to leave or stay another year.

Does he shoot the 3-ball well enough????

Other than Mott and occasionally Owens, D-II JUCO isn't a breeding grounds for D-I talent in the Midwest.

D-I JUCO community colleges have most of the prime JUCO talent.

RE: 2016/17/18 Men's Basketball Recruiting
With the 2015/16 season half over, I do wonder what the staff considers their prime need(s) given Thompson's development, three sitouts (LWH, Madray, Jones), but some problems shooting and at the point. Recruiting needs changed????

Or is the biggest thing simply the three newcomers + a focused Lee?

My guess is that next year would be a great time to get an impact graduate transfer shooter, someone like the ones L'ville picked up (Lee from Drexel and Lewis from CLE State).

I'm not worried about the power positions. We might be as strong at '5' and '4' as we have been in a very long time.

With the exception of Ward (?) and Nazione.

No surprise as to moving down, but, of course, who knew which schools.

While many here don't like JUCOs or grad eligible transfers, frosh are higher risk of not making it.

As has been posted, both Dieng and Diane were popular choices with posters on this forum.

Diane did have an unofficial (at least) as a junior. He visited during a football game day.

Dieng, I thought, still had D-I potential which was unrealized because of all of the time he missed on the court. Injured. Thought he was declared ineligible by the MHSAA his senior year.

We need to win 20 games and make the WNIT this season. One it may keep JTIV interested in sticking around for a possible NCAA bid and 2) That might be the turning point Murphy needed to finally start landing some top Mi highschool talent.

We need to find a way to capitalize having JTIV because no matter where Murphy ends up, he may never get another opportunity to coach a player of his caliber.

Go EMU!

It should be interesting if JT4 can 'recruit' a good player from Louisiana to join him here. Perhaps from his AAU team.

There are so many different ways that coaches recruit and 'referral' is one of them.

RE: 2016/17/18 Men's Basketball Recruiting
Just wondering:

Is it still true that he have a verbal from Epps (2017) - SG from Wayne Memorial? I saw him ranked in the top 25 in his MI (junior) class.

River Rouge (Stone's school) has a good PG, Owens-White, who is also a 2017 player. I've seen him ranked in the top 15 in his MI (junior) class.

Come March 2017 we lose a lot of our back court (Lee, Mangum, Toney) but are expected to be very strong up front with JT4, LWH, Bond, Madray, Noble, Jones, etc.

Based on that, I'd go with a h.s. backcourt player this April (e.g., Justin Turner - combo from Detroit) and couple more in April 2017.

Don't forget we have also offered Brown and Towns for 2016. Towns would be closer to a true point while Brown could be a Tim Bond like combo big guard/small forward player.

looking at rankings from a pay site: Turner is a top unsigned prospect in MI. Towns and Brown are both legitimate MAC prospects.

(my 'criteria' is that a player has to be top 5 senior in MI to be consider a B1G or high major recruit, although not all top 5s go high major. For the MAC I basically go down to say ranked 30. To me anything below 30 is a MAC Plan B recruit.).

Good list although dated (Newman to George Mason and Groce to ?, I forgot):

http://theprepballreport.com/2015/10/08/...d-seniors/

I can see us going after Turner, Towns, etc. from this list...
