In state games are always our bigger draws. something about it makes EIU,WIU like getting their tails kicked.
now if we could only get an ISU game and/or a UofI/SIU win at HS then we'd be golden.
Yep, just like the game I attended in Dekalb when the Michael Turner led Huskies were denied by the 'Necks.
i do not believe Turner was leading the team at that point. It was Thomas Hammock. that is, if we are talking about 2002.
We are talking about 2002, and you are incorrect. I was at the game, it was a great crowd. You guys were coming off a very close loss against a ranked Wisconsin team, and the refs blew several calls that led to the outcome.

Actually, blew calls is not describing the reffing accurately. I was also in attendance in Madison that day, and the refs handed the game to Wisconsin. I remember a PI call on NIU in the 4th qtr and there was not a defender within 10 feet of the receiver when the flag was thrown.
I found some old quotes from Joe:
"Can I get fined talking about the officials? I know they do in
the Big Ten,'' Novak said. "I'm not going to, because we don't do
that. I never criticize officials because, simply, they're closer
than I am. So, I don't know.
"But, boy, there was some awful bad timing on some of those
penalties. The holding on the punt, in 34 years of coaching, I
don't think I've ever seen that one before.''
