He has outplayed Stehling and been the most consistent QB. He is a true dual threat with blazing speed. He should see the field this year unless they go with seniority at that position. Remember DJ did not play as a redshirt sophomore.
I heard Jeremy Jones transferred because he wanted to come back and play QB but coaches wanted him at receiver.
Why doesn't anyone ask Bailiff these questions. All we ever hear is apple pie stuff.
Prediction is 55-7 given everyone has the team going 10-2. No Nicholls State please.
I think no one asks those questions because, no offense to Jeremy Jones, no one cares.
There are plenty of other guys I am more interested in, so finding out why one random football player left doesn't really rate high on my (and likely other's) list of questions about Rice football. Now if we started seeing Braun-like numbers of football players leaving, that's another thing.
RiceLady you must be related to Bailiff. I just read some of your other posts and you always come to his defense. This is a blog board. We can ask, challenge and critique. Note is only a blog.
And I am stopping you from asking questions or challenging things how? Being that this is a blog board, can't we also disagree with others or call out comments that seem ludicrous? Seriously, who cares why Jeremy Jones quit? I literally had to go up to your previous comment to remember his name. If DJ quits, that's a big deal.
And I definitely fall on the support Bailiff side of the fence rather than the hate Bailiff side, but I am not a blind supporter. However, what I definitely do is try and engage people who make asinine comments about the team/coaching that are generally driven by some obvious bias. Such comments like why no one is asking Bailiff why Jeremy Jones left.
Every year we have somebody leave. reasons may vary. Few, if any are announced. I liked JJ when he was recruited, was looking forward to seeing him play for us, but it's not like we suddenly lost a five-star recruit. I don't know if he would have been better this year or next than Stehling, German, Granato, and others. You can keep only so many QBs in the queue. At some point you need to consider if some of them can help in other ways other than carrying a clipboard.
Two way players usually have to make a choice. Our history with them actually playing in two sports is poor, as is every else's(Lewis). Maybe his BB kept him lower in the QB queue.
Anyway, ask the people you are hearing from. They seem to have an inside position.
I did and they said the same thing as stated by Walt. They wish Bailiff would have allowed him to switch over without taking away his football scholarship. Jeremy wanted to stay. So be it. He brought in Granata so let's hope he works. Time will tell

You apparently root for the Saints LOL. You have no room to talk.
Nice shot there Westside. I would hope you're not a Texans fan if so wait until you make the playoffs before we talk about the Saints. We shall see who has a better season

Great article. This won't happen to us, not this team, we are talking about a CUSA conference championship team, 10-2 or 11-1. Top 25 our coach said. No never. We shall win by 60.

Am I understanding this right? Jones wanted to stay, and keep his football scholarship, but not play football? If so, that is a ridiculous proposition, and Bailiff did the right thing here. Football scholarships are for football players.
It's extra ridiculous with basketball not even being at its scholarship limit.

SaintsOwl,if you are going to be a debbie downer and nit pick everything on this forum, could you at least be clever about it, while using proper grammar and punctuation? Seriously, there is plenty here that I don't agree with, but at least people present it in a tolerable and in most instances a humorous manner. You are like fingernails on a chalkboard....just irritating.

Excuses if already discussed: how is DJ's left shoulder? And how much does it cost Rice, if at all, to bring in Wagner?

Hot, humid and possible brief showers. They won't last long and I doubt there will be any thunder or lightning associated with them (I hope), but bring your umbrellas just in case.

Well, they finally put a spread on the game, and it's 30.5. I think for Rice to cover it will have to one of those games where most everything goes right. I'll predict 34-14 Owls, but hope for a 50-point win so we can see some backup QB play.

The line immediately drops from 30.5 to 28. Granted it doesn't take that much action to make a line change on a minor game like this, nevertheless someone is actually dropping some decent coin on Wagner?!! Respect for the Owls will only come with a Big12 win this year.

So I will go with a Rice win 45-13, to beat the 31 theoretical point-spread.
Wishful thinking?
Actually it was FIU and Wagner lost 34-3. We won at FIU 31-17 in a game that wasn't that close.
So we should win 65-20!
Close enough
