RE: Overton Park
Overton Park’s Old Forest ecosystem dates back more than 10,000 years. It's what the city looked like before humanoids got there. Some trees are hundreds of years old. And there's critters galore.
It is a wonder.
"Nowhere in the United States, except in the Pacific Northwest, will you find tree growth as luxuriant as in the Western Tennessee and Eastern Arkansas forests, and in the two hundred acres of virgin forest in Overton Park..."

Always feels like I'm home when I see it.

RE: Overton Park
They say there's a lot of drug and sex trade shenanigans going on back in the trails. Is that true? I used to run back there but got uncomfortable with all the shadowy figures lurking in the trees just beyond the paved part. So I changed my routes. But there are a lot of trees that is for sure.

I ride my bike through there weekly. Never have seen anything like that going in in the 11+ yrs I've lived in Midtown.

No. That is how it USED to be but isn't that way anymore.
Interesting that you USED to "run" at overton part but don't anymore.
Coincidence?

I go to the games, that's about it. Its not just Memphis, I try to avoid any metro area at all cost. Too many damn people.
My backyard backs up to about 20 -25 acres of woods and we have a 2 or 3 acre pond in the neighborhood that's great for afternoon fishing. Therefore, I don't have a need for a green space full of freaks and weirdos. Looking at a house on 4 acres with a pool and a 1 acre stocked pond. Then, I don't even have to share a fishing pond with anyone else.

I was in a spot very eerily similar to yours in Georgia (minus the fishing pond, double the acres of preserve I backed up to). I've also lived in busy urban areas in different parts of the country. There's something to be said for either lifestyle.
