Point where anyone berated an employee of the UAB Athletics Department.

Clark and Smith are genuine. Watts isn't and he still has all the power.
UAB will never play football again while Watts is President.

Nope. Not a word. But they did show off a map drawn by a fifth-grader, showing where they'll put tennis courts on the stadium site and a football building on top of Ullman West (guess Fumbles never wondered what that "National Register of Historical Places" plaque on the front of the old dump means).

Tennis courts are not an obstacle to a stadium at that location (but it sure does call some question to the planning...). The plaque is but it isn't insurmountable.
Still, does nothing to make us feel like doing cartwheels.

Sorry, I couldn't get into an optimal point for the screen.
Plus I had a tech issue during Haase's speech, which was aweaome.
Speeches are in parts 3 & 4

In part 3, I got Ray Watts coming in about the 6 or 7 minute mark. He came in the room, went to the back & got a drink & then exited out the back hallway. He was in there maybe 30 seconds .

RE: Be Sure to Come to the UAB Athletics Committee Meeting If You Can
I for one am not doing cartwheels (and wouldn't even if I could). When Brad asked me after the meeting what I thought, I told him that I wasn't overwhelmed. I also told him while I certainly have nothing against the tennis and beach volley ball teams, and I certainly hope they get their new facilities, I didn't make pledges to fund those facilities, I made my pledges for football facilities. He assured yet again me that our pledge money would only go to football, bowling and rifle, and of course the overwhelming majority would go to football.
I also mentioned to Brad that while it is all well in good, people did not attend the meeting to see the plans for facilities every UAB sport, especially plans for the building a bunch of tennis courts on a site of our football stadium. That shows a disrespect to the aspirations of Blazer fans if nothing else. The drawings for football facilities and coach's office were excellent, but not a word about an indoor practice facility - plans show a two turf fields instead. I also heard nothing more than the same ole BS about Coach's contract
On the positive side after the meeting, talking to those in the know (people who aren't in the administration and who I trust) I was assured that Coach Clark would be more than happy if the first shovel of dirt is turned on the new football facilities this fall. He believes that if he could show potential recruits what UAB is the process of doing to enhance its facilities, it would be a tremendous boost to his recruiting efforts.
To those who openly expressed doubts about playing football in 2017, enough of that defeatist talk! I'm sick of it! We will play football in 2017 - trust ole Cajun on this. However, what that team will look like and how successful it will be that season and into the future will depend on you and I - all of us. If we, the ordinary people will stand by our pledges and make our contributions, the Birmingham business community will do their part. We will have facilities we can be proud of and that will lead to recruiting success and then to success on the field. If we don't step up, we will have the team we deserve. But one way or the other we will play football in 2017!

Yes, you can get around the plaque, but given Fumbles' performance to date I doubt he even knows it's there, or what it means, or that 20,000 screaming Ninjas will descend on his office to avenge the honor of Japan's Favorite Poet.
Afterwards, Fumbles told Brother Matrix that there is no $2 million deadline, to not believe what we read and hear in the media. I believe I heard something similar last November ...

The asbestos abatement on that building will be more difficult than the National Historic Register.

I was hoping for something more substantial at the end of the meeting, such as where the fundraising currently stands. However, the plans for new facilities were exciting. I seriously doubt those would've been presented in public without some sort of buy off by the BOT. But we also saw plans for the stadium in 2011 so knows.
I wish we could bottle up Hatton's energy, he is a machine. The one liner about Maxwell House was hilarious.

Ullman west was not part of the original school and may not be protected. you should be able to tear that part down if the original structure remains.

I wasn't able to make it, but I couldn't agree more. His passion is contagious and really makes me feel better. I didn't know who he was at first and now I'm a big fan of him.

RE: Be Sure to Come to the UAB Athletics Committee Meeting If You Can
This is nuts. There was a brand new tennis facility built not 10 years ago. There's plenty of room for all the football buildings you could ever want without having to tear down so much as a tree on the front lawn of Ullman. Supporters have to come up with $2 million in two weeks (supposedly) to pay for a football program that won't play a game this year (and, by the way, would cost the same amount regardless--Clark is to be paid for another year--so what is the extra $2 million for?). Every time someone opens their mouth about facilities the price tag goes up and up and up, yet the facility they plan to build keeps getting smaller and smaller and smaller. We are going to have the most expensive and immaculate football operations and outdoor practice facility in the history of American football. They couldn't get started on the soccer field soon enough to ensure that the project couldn't be stalled and rolled up into a football stadium as well. And next door we're going to spend millions on a track and ANOTHER SOCCER FIELD that could be combined into a multi-use facility.

Reportedly, the 1957 annex is not included on the Register listing. Only the original building and the 1909 addition.
However, I can find no record of Ullman actually being on the list. It is not on the National Park Service website, nor the Alabama website.
