Nope. Not a word. But they did show off a map drawn by a fifth-grader, showing where they'll put tennis courts on the stadium site and a football building on top of Ullman West (guess Fumbles never wondered what that "National Register of Historical Places" plaque on the front of the old dump means).

Reportedly, the 1957 annex is not included on the Register listing. Only the original building and the 1909 addition.

However, I can find no record of Ullman actually being on the list. It is not on the National Park Service website, nor the Alabama website.

The fact that I took my very first college class (a history class actually) there makes it a historical site.

We have amazing support and buy in from the Birmingham business community. That in itself was great news. UAB has never had that type of support and passion. That puts the odds in our favor. The glass is more than half full! Stay positive and support the executive committee. It is the most support and fight we have ever had! http://www.bizjournals.com/birmingham/ne...n-for.html

Forward. Progress. Momentum. All words spoken by grown ass men and women who devote their lives to the sports of the school we love. If you want to constantly berate UAB Athletic Department employees, be my guest. I on the other hand am choosing to take the words of those people who spoke before me today.

Clark and Smith are genuine. Watts isn't and he still has all the power.

UAB will never play football again while Watts is President.

Exactly. Watts will be out by the end of this calendar year.

I have said ... and continue to say that a Senior researcher has told me since May 2015 that "Ray Watts will be gone by the end of the year" & that also "Robert Witt will be gone due to his progressive dementia"

The asbestos abatement on that building will be more difficult than the National Historic Register.

True dat. The National register has no teeth to prevent the wrecking ball. It just provides incentives to not swing it. The only real obstacle would be the public fallout. Ray doesn't have much ass left to chew on.

Ironically, I learned that in an Historic Preservation class. In Ullman Hall.

I like the history of the building and the "cool factor" (I'm a history nerd) of taking classes in Ullman. However, let's face it, the place is a dump. There were rats in the classrooms and computer labs and homeless people sleeping in the bathrooms. I'd love for there to be major renovations to the place so we could keep it. But if that isn't feasible, and especially if it means Ullman or no new football building, I say tear it down.

(08-18-2015 08:34 PM)mixduptransistor Wrote:  This is nuts. There was a brand new tennis facility built not 10 years ago. There's plenty of room for all the football buildings you could ever want without having to tear down so much as a tree on the front lawn of Ullman. Supporters have to come up with $2 million in two weeks (supposedly) to pay for a football program that won't play a game this year (and, by the way, would cost the same amount regardless--Clark is to be paid for another year--so what is the extra $2 million for?). Every time someone opens their mouth about facilities the price tag goes up and up and up, yet the facility they plan to build keeps getting smaller and smaller and smaller. We are going to have the most expensive and immaculate football operations and outdoor practice facility in the history of American football. They couldn't get started on the soccer field soon enough to ensure that the project couldn't be stalled and rolled up into a football stadium as well. And next door we're going to spend millions on a track and ANOTHER SOCCER FIELD that could be combined into a multi-use facility.

The soccer team doesn't deserve a shared space with football. I have seen how that works in the south, the soccer team loses. Also, soccer and football fields aren't the same dimensions, and don't have the same needs. It works in high school when that's all you have. A perennial top 25 team deserves its own facility.(also, the cost of the soccer facility is peanuts compared to what some of the football costs are). Enough of that though.

I'm still disappointed in the meeting yesterday. Nothing major there. I thought maybe a Clark contract would be announced. Oh well.

I do not blame them for not announcing a penny has been raised yet. We don't need to let that number leak, and I hope we continue to not let it leak. Say we have $4 million raised, the next moving target might be $8million by thanksgiving. We still have to play it carefully, and if that means some info is withheld from the general public, then so be it. I trust the guys on our side.

I would not pay a lot of attention to what Ingram said or SHOWED. Just follow Hatton and the coaches. They will make it happen. Ride the wave.

I echo what oldragon said.

Since the standard the program is being held to is "money in hand" it doesn't matter if it "leaks" or not, the people who are moving the goalposts are signers on the bank account and know the numbers.

As UAB fans we know all about the the obstacles put in front of us by our own administration and the corrupt BoT controlling it. Coach Clark's message to us as a fanbase was basically to tell us to win our battles as fans, and do what we need to do (aka buy in, put our money where our mouth is) and that he has confidence that if we do that, UAB football can attain heights never before seen on the southside.

That message is good enough for me. I lack the power to remove Watts and the BoT. I lack the power to punish them for what they have done to this university, it's student athletes and it's fans. But I do have the power to buy in and do what Coach Clark asked, so thats what I did this morning. I encourage each of you that are on the fence to do the same.

Well Spoken , my Brother!!! and it was an uplifting Pep Rally at that!!! This is the first time Ive heard Coach Haase get on the soap box and I was very impressed,, Same thing for Coach Townsend, and Coach Clark had me ready to storm the beaches at Normandy. Hatton Smith put the icing on the cake at the end.

You should have heard Haase this summer at the tipoff dinner. He was downright angry at one point in his speech. He's got vision.
