As they already have two private Christian based schools (TCU, Baylor), I doubt they care about BYU's affiliation

SunBelt mentioned in Big12 Expansion Talks
I'm pretty sure TCU cut most of their ties to the church. Also the larger issue with Liberty is the online diploma mill and controversial history they are trying to overcome.

tcu is still a church school, it's just toned down. and byu would be a good get for any conference...liberty not so much. uh probably wouldnt be a terrible add as that would give the b12 a familiar face for the fans and some presence in houston but if they want to go with the biggest name it would be byu.

The big 12 has Texas. They don't need Houston for 'a presence in Houston'. It is a shame that it is that way, but Texas has at least twice the market saturation in Houston that the home town team does, and aTm is also ahead of the Cougs in Houston.
It was the same when Houston was in the SWC. Texas and the Aggies had more fans in Houston than the Cougs did then, too.

In fairness, UH is clearly # 3 in Houston, and they have better market pentration in Houston that Louisiana Tech does in Ruston. Then again, that isn't saying much.
