Why, if Watts killed football on his own, does the UA Board have to vote to reinstate?

Because he didn't' make the decision to kill on his own. Anyone who believes that is naïve.

Nobody seems to know that.

Someone or everyone involved is lying. Watts Saud the decision was all his. Board says they are prohibited from daily involvement in Atletics, although board member Finis St. John IV personally saw to it to block a $1million GIFT to place artificial turf on an already dangerous & poor draining practice field last Spring.

That said, I think we're going to make it. You guys won't get rid of us that easily. I look forward to more crying after we win the Conference hoops tourney again this season.

I think we're going to have well in excess of $25m on the table, and if the BoT turns that down all hell is going to break loose.

About that 25 million how is that going to affect donations 2,3,4 yeas from now? In my experience donations falls off to really low levels (well below avg)in the following years after a drive like this. Especially since most likely UAB will be going through at least a couple years of losing in football. The other side to that is if your basketball makes a run in those years it can offset it.

Usually, not always, but usually, after fans are called on to reach in their pockets (as deep as they can) it hurts the following years.

The pledges were for 5 years. So in year six, we should have C-USA level facilities, our FB program will be back to full strength and the money committed to basketball will begin to payoff. If we come back, in 5 years fundraising will be a whole lot easier.

Remember, the president attempted to make the fundraising harder for football, by committing a boat load of money for men's basketball. $1M for coach, upgrades to facilities, and increased recruiting budget. If FB now comes back we will have a hoops programs that's (equipped) to perennially be in the NCAA tournament and a FB program that is competing off the field as hard as it did on.

So this is a 5 year donation and that's what I'm getting at....

UAB had donations of $3,205,602 for 2014 so over the next 5 years how much will this eat into that 3+ million? I know you don't have the answer to that no one does. But again in my experience in donation drives...yearly donations drop over the life span of the drive. So once the average fans sits down a year from now and UAB football is still there....

then the fan starts looking at his or her own financial problems and it's very easy to say...I gave already. There's no question a yearly drop will happen the question will be how much. So while the 25 million is great someone looking at it from a numbers point of view and a impact point of view doesn't see it at that number. There's other things that plays into it.

I know as a fan...the only goal for UAB fans is to get football back and let others worry about the money problems when they come up. But someone is asking these same questions and I think if UAB's programs are not brought back that's going to be a part of it.

Hope I'm wrong

How much are donations going to drop if there is no football at all? Much better question to ask. I would also wager that more fundraising will be done if football is reinstated so it won't have that much of an effect. Season ticket sales will also rise for at least the first couple of years, regardless of record. From then on, who knows?

I would have took a totally different stance on this fight....

bowling and rifle brings in no revenue at all but I'm sure both combine eats up 100s of thousand a year. Drop them. But football is a different story it brings in money to offset cost. So if a cut had to be made you cut the non-revenue sports and then see how much money is needed.

Good Luck...no news today will be good new.

Not just no. Hell no. Ray Watts dropped them by text message. I was with them when they got the news. That little pumpkinheaded bastard needs to burn in hell for what he did to them.

And that's not a casual insult. I want Ray Watts to suffer eternal damnation as described by Dante Alighieri, anally raped by the flaming barbed penii of demons until the heat death of the universe.

We are bringing back football, bowling AND rifle.

would be impressive if UAB faithful are successful in bringing football back. It won't be over until the fat man sings, however. Certainly has united your fans, alum and city like few other things could have. Hope they keep that passion and show up at games. Good luck.

Showing up at the games isn't the issue. Investing in the program has been the issue. Don't ask fans to be cool with your program playing in a oversize chitbucket and no support from your BOT and President.

We did it for decades. But recently things have been slowly getting better.

This is the same way I feel. And we wasted a ton of money to take the year off if it comes back.

The only sure way to fix the problem for UAB and all other G5s that this kind of thing may happen to is for something bad to happen to UA as a result of the BOT decisions. Eye for an Eye comes to mind. But nobody has the clout for that to occur unless some politicians with heuvos get pissed enough.

I really hope that UAB gets football back for their benefit and all the G5s this could affect.

Oddly enough, the Bowling team showed a $75,000 profit in 2013-14. Mainly due to the fact that 100% of equipment, uniforms, travel etc were covered by donations from bowling centric corporatations. The only expense not covered were the ladies actual scholarship costs according to a member of the program.

Watts is just washing his hands of this ala Pontius Pilate. Why would UAT go this far only to reverse it? Watts knows he's toast either way. No way UAT votes yes.

The UA Board of Trustees are currently under more scrutiny than ever before, and one helluva lot more than they like. It's not beyond imagination that they're throwing a bone to get that bright light out of their face.

If the UAT have a bigger agenda for UAB and that be turning UAB into a doctorial campus and basically stealing all of UABs undergrad programs then this will go a lot further than just football. Football might just be the 1st step in stripping UAB of all of their athletics. This may not be the case but in some of the articles that say this the undertone sent UABs way seems grim for UAB in general.
