I have seen some tweets saying that she has been added to the roster.

Yes, saw one for the DC event that listed her.

pinging @07owl...

I did go to the DC event. It was very good, I'd guess about 30 people showed up. I didn't get a chance to talk with Coach Langley (she gave a great speech), but I was very impressed with Dr. Karlgaard, Coach Bailiff, and Coach Rhoades.

Some points I remember:

- Dr. K mentioned that nobody was very happy with our 3rd tier tv rights deal with ASN, because they didn't show the games where they were supposed to on several occasions. In DC we encountered that where the game was scheduled to be on, but it wasn't. He made it seem like we were going back to the set up where each school was responsible for its own 3rd tier programming, but not sure that's definite

- Coach Bailiff was super excited about this coming year. I asked him specifically about the defense because of our losses, and he said he wasn't worried because of some of our returning players (like Mouchantaf). He knows we'll have to rely on freshmen more than he'd like to, but he trusts these guys. Also mentioned that he supported Covington in his decision, as much as he would have liked him back. Thinks we have a good shot against Texas. He said he understands sometimes people complain about our academic standards holding us back in recruiting, but he said the worst thing we could do is lower them. He said it's our biggest strength and gets him into any living room he wants.

- Coach Rhoades is also very excited about the coming years and our young prospects. He spoke about how proud he was about Seth Gearhart staying and really buying in and seeing his numbers jump enough to be 2nd team all conference. He seems confident that we can get in the Tournament in the near future.

- Everyone I spoke with realizes this is not an ideal conference for us, but there's only so much that can be done about it right now. Some people I spoke to made it seem like it was a very stressful time when VCU was looking at Coach Rhoades. Another point is that people seemed to recognize that men's basketball is where the real opportunity lies for us in what sports can accomplish for the school. We're consistently making (and winning) bowl games, but it doesn't have the PR value that making the NCAA Tournament does. That's a more attainable goal than the Access Bowl, which would also help our brand.

If I start to remember more, I'll add to this

I was at the San Antonio event. This was my first one of these and I met some nice folks. Unfortunately, work duties called and I had to leave early. I got to eat my lunch and hear Karlgaard, Coach Volpe (VB), and Coach Langley (WBB) speak. I missed out on Rhoades, Bailiff, and the Q&A.

In referring to the Doerrs' gift for a leadership institute, Karlgaard made the good point that athletics teaches leadership skills such as responding to failure and working on teams. Volpe (from S.A.) highlighted how well the volleyball season went and expressed her optimism for next year, and current VB player Kim Vaio gave a nice speech. (A highlight was describing how the football team cheered them on in Hattiesburg.) Langley promised an up-tempo style for women's hoops. Also, Asst Coach Sydney Colson just signed a training camp contract with the WNBA S.A. Stars.

I did get to hear Coach Rhoades correct his boss, who erroneously added an additional number to the MBB team's loss total for last season.

Just arrived at the event in Austin. Bailiff is really tall! FOX 7 is interviewing Rhoades. Bailiff was interviewed as I arrived.

I asked coach Bailiff, "How are you going to beat UT?" His response: "By one!" He went on to emphasize that their preparation was 100% focused on winning that game, winning the CUSA championship, and being a top 25 team.

Yup. Sounds like he's gotten the "talking points" and how he is going to be measured. I've said all along this coming season is make or break for him as we have effectively plateaued the past 3 seasons (with regards to who we beat, and whom we're competitive against). It's due time we beat some Top 75 teams, and are at least competitive against top 50 teams.

With the upcoming schedules DB will have opportunities each year to grab that significant win. JK has put him "on the clock".

RE: 2015 Coaches (plural) Caravan: earlier, bigger and better
Other notes:

Coach Rhoades mentioned that he reached out to Shaka Smart to try and schedule UT for basketball, but that UT wouldn't play us. Dr. K pointed out that until our RPI improves some opponents may see us as a 'trap game', where there's too high a risk of an upset loss. Rhoades talked a bit about Chad Lott, calling him one of the top five players in Louisiana this year, and talking about his 42-inch vertical leap.

Coach Bailiff had a really cool personal moment - he introduced the doctor (a Rice grad!) who delivered his very premature twin boys ~18 years ago in Austin. "This man saved my sons' lives." He also introduced his 5th grade teacher, and talked about how the recent uptick in Rice players going to the NFL has really helped recruiting.

Dr. K was asked about our CUSA affiliation. He echoed something mentioned on another thread - that we have no academic peers in the conference, and only a handful of regional 'rivals'. It's clear he's looking at alternatives, and he said we'd definitely jump at the opportunity to move to a better conference (no more details than that, though).

I talked briefly with Coach Langley. She pointed out that both our basketball coaches have been assistants on Final Four teams - something rare (potentially unique, she speculated) for a mid-major team.

All in all a really good event, with about 40-50 fans in attendance. Dr. K pushed us to double that next year.

No mention of season ticket sales that I can recall. He was asked about playing 'big name' football opponents at NRG. He talked about his attempt to set up a game with LSU at Rice Stadium - LSU demanded the entire gate for the game, we would only get concessions and parking. Said they couldn't work out a deal.
