At least in the past I always had faith the higher-ups would make corrections when needed to keep the program competitive with other good teams around the country. Like you 3 years ago I began to realize coach wasn’t getting any better and still hasn’t. We still struggle with average teams and usually get beaten badly by good or ranked teams.

TBO I have no confidence either our coach or the higher-ups know what it takes to improve the program enough to compete on the national stage.

Now, it seems the higher ups are content to hang on to Pastner b/c he's clean and graduates players. Winning doesn't matter anymore and we've heard that the athetic dept was focusing on football to get us in a better league. As we saw from the B12 meetings, that's going nowhere.

On the surface it appears the only ones concerned about the direction of the bball program as to winning is a portion of the fanbase. There’s another segment of the fanbase that seem quite satisfied and are willing to accept anything above a 500 season.

OTOH I’m happy with the direction of the football program and glad we FINALLY landed a good coach. We need to keep it competitive for the next realignment even though the BIG 12 isn’t going to make a move now.

People should also remember that basketball was one reason we got into the Big East (with the help of Pitino). If it would have remained mostly intact we would be in a P6 conference today.

lol, there is a big difference between:

"after 4 straight NCAAs, strong recruiting, and a perfect APR, I'm willing to give coach one more year"

and

"Hey, I'm happy with anything over .500"

Excellent post. Some don't understand the difference.

For 6 years Josh’s teams have been unable to raise their level of play and win big key games. You can build a nice record but if you can’t win some of the big ones then you’ve achieved nothing in my book.

We’ve been over this stuff time & time again and you either accept the direction of the program or you don’t.

That makes nothing I said untrue...

I didn’t say it was untrue but the devil is in the details.

-Yes we went to 4 straight NCAAs but what happened when we got there? In 2 of them we didn’t win a game and in the other 2 we won 1 game in each and were blown out in the following game.

-Yes we’ve had strong recruiting but what did we do with them? We didn’t develop them and didn’t defeat enough good teams to get a decent NCAAt seed which was the result of my first point.

-Yes we have a prefect APR and I agree it’s a good thing.

-Yes you are willing to give him another year but I’m not. For me it’s not only about the recent season it’s about the past 3 which IMHO were all underachieved.

Just because someone says the wrong thing for four years does not make it truth.

I'm not a fan of the NBA and don't really follow the Grizzlies. But as a Memphian I'd like to see them win it all. But for the long haul Memphis will always be a Tiger town....Open and shut case.

It's great to share all opinions on here.

Rarely is anything black and white. I had a wonderful time, the atmosphere all afternoon and evening downtown was superb. People who have different collegiate alliances come together as one to support the local pro team. That's what pro teams do for cities - they galvanize.

I too don't care much for the NBA product as a whole and think the officiating is beyond absurd. That doesn't stop me from being proud of our team, city and amazing support the Grizz are given. 24th straight PO sellout, highest average attendance, etc. Making a lot of lifelong fans, that's for sure.

^^^^^

We're mostly on the same page here. I hope they win it all, even though it's not really my thing. What a wonderful gift it would be for a city that desperately needs some good news.

I didn’t say it was untrue but the devil is in the details. Yes, I know I'm correct.

-Yes we went to 4 straight NCAAs but what happened when we got there? Who cares? Memphis has only ever advanced to the sweet 16 or farther, 11 times in almost 100 years...we not a blue blood, and we're entitled to NOTHING. In 2 of them we didn’t win a game and in the other 2 we won 1 game in each and were blown out in the following game.

-Yes we’ve had strong recruiting but what did we do with them? made 4 straight NCAA tourneys We didn’t develop them and didn’t defeat enough good teams to get a decent NCAAt seed In the entire history of Memphis basketball. We've only done better than a 6 seed 10 times...yet again, your numbers are BSwhich was the result of my first point. Which was incorrect.

-Yes we have a prefect APR and I agree it’s a good thing. Yes, I know I'm correct.

-Yes you are willing to give him another year but I’m not. Since Josh is coming back with his full staff, we see how seriously your opinion is taken For me it’s not only about the recent season it’s about the past 3 which IMHO were all underachieved.

And, while Calipari was here, he skirted the recruiting rules and cause Memphis to pulled off the record for appearing the in the Finals against Kansas. No, thanks! I want a HC who can recruit clean. Winning, at any cost, is NOT what I want from the Tigers.
