RE: Ricky Tarrant granted release from Alabama
I would be surprised if we go after another PG right now unless it would be a big time one that had a few years of eligibility remaining.

Tarrant is a good every thing. Don't expect him to come to UAB. Mike Davis snubbed him big time in high school. I talked to his dad the other day and he said Mike and his staff wouldn't even come to see him play in high school. He will have many big suitors.

Rumor is that both players are going to Texas Southern...

Is that a joke lol?

I don't recall that Tarrant had a bad relationship with Davis, just that he couldn't get in here because of the strict grade requirements.

I wouldn't doubt that they would try Texas Southern.

JOX just said Tarrant might end up there, no mention of Orlando Coleman though. Boy we could really use Tarrant but it's obvious he's a package deal. We need Willy Koussai more and would have to send someone packing if interested in any of them. If Hasse got Koussai and Tarrant we would be a legit Sweet sixteen team.

RE: Ricky Tarrant granted release from Alabama
i believe Tarrant didn't qualify for UAB thanks to the apr crap caused by berrios & Roderick. Tarrant had 19 on act, need a 20. Due to poor apr scores, we had to raise qualifications. So we missed out on, Tarrant, Lacey, Randolph, Cooper, watford, & that kid at Murray state from Woodlawn, I believe.

Ed Daniel

Are the restrictions still in place?

Ed Daniel is right.

I don't think they are.

RE: Ricky Tarrant granted release from Alabama
Ricky may have been one of those unfortunate players caught up in coaching changes at each school along the way. Has Johnson already indicated to Tarrant a shift in roles or PT for next season? Maybe they just did not "hit it off well" in first meetings. At any rate, if Ricky can play right away, he can go lots of places where they need immediate help.

No, the APR mess has been cleaned up and I don't think the restrictions are nearly as stringent. Remember also that Hasse was a three time academic All-American, and he's not going to stand for any "I can't practice and study too" crap.

Maybe the new president isn't as tough on academics as the old president was. The restrictions came under Garrisons watch.

I knew Tarrant would end up transferring. I thought we'd be in play. Not saying we are in play for him. I didn't see him sticking around had Grant returned. He was there because of Cooper & Randolph. Why not take him if he's interested? One year left. Need another veteran. He doesn't have any problems scoring at Bartow. At least not in the second half.

I hope he comes back home and brings Orlando along too if they both can play immediately mite make a guard or two leave then we get some bigs. Tarrant would start here at pg for me.

Doubt Haase is going after him. He built this team with Norton at the point. He wouldn't bench Norton for a 1 year player.

How? Norton was a late signee don't know if Frazier stayed if Norton or Baxter would've started. Then we got Norton after many failed attempts for other guys. Also Tarrant is a flat out better player than Nick right now.

Totally agree Tarrant is better. I think Haase has really gone all in on trying to build off this core class though. I will say there is a huge piece of Norton's game that is missing. He is not a threat inside of the 3 point line offensively. He doesn't even try to go at the basket.

We wouldn't have Norton if Frazier were still here. Fwiw, we all can agree we got the better end of that deal. Norton is a steal, just as Cokley. Norton could be our Aaron Craft. He's still growing up.
