You need to read it again.

It's in the same section that mandates free birth control and forces people to have health insurance.

It's called "General Welfare".

I usually buy thick cut london broils and cut into steaks when I want more than hamburger. It's nothing but flank steak, but cut thick enough and seasoned well it's pretty good on the grill.

Where in the world do you live?

Around here, you can get "7 bone" steak for under $3 a pound.

That's a Chuck. We're not discussing chuck. We're pretty clearly talking about blowing someone else's money on Porterhouse or T-bone, frozen brazilian lobster tails or king crab or ocean scallops or something @ 14.99 a lb.

This "playing" dumb routine grows old after a while. Unless, of course you're not playing.

Oh, and whoever mentioned the imported shrimp, uh yea. No. Nothing from China, Indonesia etc. uh unh. 05-nono

It's difficult to find US shrimp in the North East.

Understood. Not to derail the thread, but you just need to vacation in NC during summer. Buy 10#'s of fresh white NC shrimp, vac seal them and freeze. That'll hold ya for a while.

That other stuff? As mentioned, do the google on that and it's not all hype and "hit" pieces. I know folks in the industry...

Good info ..... I grow my own vegs and try to freeze what I can that will get me through the winter months. I'll trade you some little neck clams for fresh white shrimp any time! 03-thumbsup

Our government provides food stamps for the "general welfare" of it's citizens. Once you start telling them they can't buy certain foods with those food stamps, you open yourself up to discrimination.

Come on man, it's not rocket science.

But there are already prohibited food items in the program.

As for discrimination.....explain to me how being fiscally responsible is discriminatory. Many of the people who are working and providing the free ride aren't eating steak and seafood because they are having to foot the bill for others to do so. It's essentially like you and I go to McDonalds and I have to eat off the Dollar menu because I have to pay for you to get a supersized Double Quarter Pounder meal and a McFlurry.

And no it's not rocket science, it's economics. When you have limited funds then you need to be economical with your purchases and cut out the luxuries. Contrary to what yo are saying steak and seafood IS a luxury as there are more economical ways for someone to obtain the exact same nutritional needs that those two items provide.

Nobody is saying they can't eat, they just need to learn to eat more economically.

drum roll please............................

Kaplony and I agree..... This isn't an issue. Guys they are not buying Lobsters. THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF.... Maybe this is somehow lowering the value of their card though? I've heard about people buying the EBT card out in a parking lot at like 2 for 1. 50 bucks will get you 100 in EBT food. Can't be getting the black market rates if your 100 is Great Valu 100. Probably lowers it to a 1/3rd of it's value.

Why don't we just do away with the money, and just give them food? They get fed, everybody else doesn't get mad because welfare recipients aren't buying steak and lobster....Sounds like a win/win.

You know this for a fact?

You spent much time in a position where you could observe what people on government assistance were buying? I have, and I know you are wrong.

Why didn't the Dems and Obama just pass a bill so that the Government would pay for health insurance for people who can't afford a policy, as apposed to increasing costs for everybody else and forcing Insurance companies to include all kinds of stuff in a policy that they might elect to not choose.

Or acquire hospitals that hospital groups are disposing of. Make those federal hospitals that offer free or inexpensive care.

It's not worth getting down into the minutiae of picking which foods are acceptable. There is a formula that calculates how much money a household on EBT should get per month. That calculation include variables for location and are predicated on the average price for goods. If someone blows that money on top of the lines items, I don't want to hear anyone coming back talking about they don't have enough cash to last through the month. Because if that's the case we may need to seriously consider removing the kids from the home.
