Question-Does SACS accreditation just cover the undergraduate side of the school or do they also cover the Medical School? That could be the nuclear weapon if it affects the east side

RE: SACS Third-Party Comments Due Jan. 15
If SACS actually pulled accreditation it would affect government funding and research grants, the ability of those with UAB degrees to get into advanced programs, and the ability to get federal grants and loans to attend UAB. It is likely that if SACS did rule against UAB it would start with a warning, a chance to make changes and remain within the SACS guidelines, rather than a full loss of accreditation.
That's a very big deal if it happens. Both UA and UAB are already scheduled for a SACS review this year. The really scary thing about it is that if they get in here and start digging there's no telling what they might find that we are not aware of. There is nothing that these guys cannot examine if they wish to, and who knows what wrongs may have been discovered by the university in the past and quietly swept under the carpet. It is indeed a nuclear option.
On the good side, it was SACS that got Bobby Lowder off of Auburn's neck. PBJ does not scare them a bit.
The biggest question in my mind, and I really have no answer to it, is given that the UA BoT makes our decisions for us, to what degree is each university held responsible for those actions? If the BoT is found in violation, does that blow back on UA or UAB? Perhaps someone else can answer that, because I really don't have any idea.

A SACS investigation could put a lot of pressure on Bentley and the State Legislature to reform the Board of Trustees and governing structure of the system. What we have now is a joke, which is not funny at all.

Honestly guys if this is not the time to use a nuclear option then when will be the time? After the shut down the ENTIRE athletic department? I say we drop the bomb now and rebuild from here if we must.

It isn't nuclear if they surrender. Unlike Hiroshima, they will already have a good idea of what kind of damage to expect, and will have a chance to raise their hands and sign a peace treaty before the bomb goes off.

Wonder, just wonder, if the UA BOT wants the SACS investigation and their solution is to shut down all UAB undergraduate programs, athletics, EVERYTHING, except a few undergrad courses directly related to medicine leaving only a grad and Medical School (including Dentistry and Optometry). It this is the case, we better be ready to push state legislature approval to form and pursue accreditation for the University of Birmingham.

A shot in the dark question. If not employees or enrolled students at UAB, can fans/supporters of other Conference USA or others programs fill this out and turn them in? If so, we should reach out them to see these links and start signing and mailing them!

Anyone not employed by the University can send in a third-party form.

Don't make the mistake of over-thinking and over-analyzing this. That is the kind of thinking that allowed us to look the other way over the Jimbo interference and the on campus stadium situation. Had we acted then, we would not have to be acting now.

"over-thinking"? Not acting? That's why I posted this! To the contrary, ignoring this possibility will loss UAB, as we know it, with no alternatives! Please re-read my post and reconsider my comment. It was not posted lightly or just off the top of my head.

Damn! That eliminates me, then. A suggestion, though. How many local businesses that are pro-UAB would consider involving themselves and their employees on filling out and mailing these forms in? I know of at least 3 across the street from where I work that I can reach out to and ask about doing so. Feasible?
