2 new area,, what really is the benefit in that? It will provide little or no extra media money and if you cant recruit kentucky now you still wont.
3 agreed not bad at football id go further and say their pretty good.
4. If they had the votes theyd be in wouldnt they. Much like if jmu wanted they would be in.
5. EKU is no where near ready
1. Have you seen Sun Belt basketball? They would improve overall conference basketball.
2. new area means more inroads to recruiting, it's in the east, giving a travel partner to App, and keeps anyone in the west from having to shift east.
3. we agree, so no biggie here.
4. They aren't ready, so giving them the votes now and asking them to get acclimated on the fly is where they went wrong with Georgia State. Besides, now, we have the luxury of saying "take your time, get your ducks in a row and then we can invite you (all the while looking at other options)", as opposed to what we had to do with Georgia State which was more like "be ready in two weeks, cause we need you NOW".
5. They don't have to be ready today.
Bottom line is, there's no one except those outside the conference saying "NO WAY" to them. Can't say that about Jacksonville State (where you have at least 2 saying no, in Troy and USA), and Liberty (which I believe everyone in the conference is saying "NO WAY").
Appreciate the love, Rev.
1. Think we enhance basketball immediately. I know it's in the past, but we were in a tight game until the last few minutes with Kansas in the round of 64 last March. Cory Walden, our preseason all-American, was severely limited in minutes in that one due to foul trouble. If he plays, who knows what may have happened.
2. Think our area is one of our biggest assets. Half an hour from downtown Lexington, 90 minutes to Louisville and Cincinnati, and 2 hours from Knoxville. Once we've had time to get our feet wet, I even envision us playing some 2-for-1's in Cincinnati at Paul Brown Stadium. Similar to how Western has approached Nashville.
3. Football SHOULD be playing this weekend.
4 and 5. We're getting ready. Maybe naive, but I like our chances. Our new president and his team are working tirelessly to get our facilities where we need them to be. From what I have seen and heard, we won't have the biggest capacity, but our facilities will be as nice as anyone in a year or two. Hopefully the presidents and chancellors take notice.

Lamar continue to improve.
The age old transitive property. Well that settles the argument, it has to be Lamar right? Obviously they would have finished at worst 6th in the SBC.
Was that same logic used by App st fans pre sbc invite.

Legitimately? Not horrible basketball, new area, eastern school, not horrible football, and they appear to be able to get the votes.
Jax State apparently won't get the votes with either Troy or USA in the conference. Liberty won't get the votes as long as people are sane. Lamar/Sam Houston/SFA/FGCU (or whatever that guy says) are all nowhere near ready.
Lamar could have and would have moved up to the WAC if not for Idaho blocking. The money and resources are still there.

Because 99% of the population does not know what the hell a Chanticleer is.
Thanks for the reply, but its a good program and would be a fun place to go watch football and spend some time at the beach.
Coastal is strong in baseball and soccer decent basketball program with Cliff Ellis and before him Buzz Peterson.
Basketball , baseball and softball stadiums are brand new .
The football stadium was built to easily be expanded.
Now if SC could make peace with the NCAA over the Confederate flag issue it would be a bowl destination.
Myrtle Beach would love to have a bowl game at its slowest tourist time. Two thousand plus hotels mostly empty during bowl season. Coastals other big problem is it hasn't been independent that long. Formerly USC-Coastal so not a lot of long time fans. I am going to their first home playoff game at one.
I doubt the crowd will be good without the students.

A chanticleer is a cowardly character from the Canterbury Tales. Does no one remember their English Lit class?

If the Alabama BOT isn't willing to support UAB football, there's no way Jacksonville St is going FBS, right? Wouldn't they face resistance? Are they part of the same university system?

I don't think so. I believe it's UAB and UA Huntsville.

RE: SBC's future outlook
I think Texas State gets invited to CUSA.
1. It takes SBC football out of the state of Texas.
2. Already solid rivalry between Texas State and UTSA
3. Will boost UTEP and UNT home attendance games.
4. Keeps CUSA above SBC in pecking order.
CUSA East
Charlotte
Florida Atlantic
Florida International
Marshall
Middle Tennessee
Old Dominion
Western Kentucky
CUSA West
Louisiana Tech
North Texas
Rice
Southern Mississippi
Texas El Paso
Texas San Antonio
Texas State
This puts a lot of pressure on the Sun Belt
Appalachian State
Arkansas State
Georgia State
Georgia Southern
Idaho
Louisiana Lafayette
Louisiana Monroe
New Mexico State
South Alabama
Troy
So expect an invite for Missouri State and some type of announcement for UTA football.
SBC East
Appalachian State
Georgia State
Georgia Southern
Idaho
South Alabama
Troy
SBC West
Arkansas State
Missouri State
Louisiana Lafayette
Louisiana Monroe
New Mexico State
Texas Arlington
With this arrangement I would expect that Kennesaw State will be looked at as a viable replacement for Idaho in the East.
SBC East
Appalachian State
Georgia State
Georgia Southern
Kennesaw State
South Alabama
Troy
SBC West
Arkansas State
Missouri State
Louisiana Lafayette
Louisiana Monroe
New Mexico State
Texas Arlington
This makes a tight footprint in the East and a very viable West division.
It also prepares the SBC for when Georgia State is invited to fill the whole in the CUSA footprint... Georgia?

Kennesaw State... One of the talking points to not inviting Liberty was lack of FCS success and what not...and now you're advocating an FCS start-up with no history whatsoever and an 8,000 seat stadium? Yes I realize that a 2017 Idaho exit leaves KSU some time to build...but really? Men do not let their emotions cloud their ability to reason.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. I'm sure BYU and ORU can empathize with you. There are some differences between public and private schools such as tuition, policies, academic standards, etc. I think all current members are public schools. I had heard that the PAC-12 didn't want a private school (even though Stanford is a member), or else I'm sure BYU would have been admitted over Utah. These differences don't bother me. In fact, I think they would enhance the reputation of the conference.
oru maybe. byu is a large school with national prominance and whose sports programs win at the top level. usc is also a private school BTW

UAT, UAB and UAH are under one BOT. JSU is the only school under their BOT.

Staying at 11 teams leaves the conference with the feeling of unfinished business. As this season comes to a close what will the belt look like if there are at least twelve teams.
One of the wisest move woud be to add NMSU as a full member.
East Division
Appalachian State
Georgia Southern
Georgia State
Jacksonville State
Massachusettes (football only)
South Alabama
Troy
West Division
Arkansas State
*Idaho (football only)
Louisiana Lafayette
Louisiana Monroe
Missouri State
New Mexico State
Texas State
When EKU can only draw slightly over 1,900, they are not ready for FBS.
Missouri State firing their coach when it was unexpected, shows that they are wanting to focus on football. Their football stadium expansion also is a sign they are embracing a move up. As long as the Belt keeps Idaho as a football only team, add UMASS helps balance the league and with these fourteen teams allows the Belt to negoitiate more bowl tie-ins. Adding NMSU and Missouri State strengthens the Belt's basketball and baseball reputation. Time to move on from the JMU and Liberty rumors. The Belt will be set.
Take out Jacksonville St and Missouri St. Put UMASS in the EAST FB ONLY to replace the the team that CUSA picks up with UAB's unfortunate situation unless CUSA goes after James Madison or UMASS for their conference. If CUSA takes James Madison, give NMST an all sports invite, keep Idaho in the west for FB only on 4 year contracts with 2 year look ins and do the same for UMASS in the east to get to a 12 team conference with a Championship Game.
