CUSA probably stays at 13 short term to see if Big 12 makes a move. If CUSA loses 1 then they just stay at 12.

I don't know about WKU but MTSU and UNT won't vote for Georgia State unless the leadership has had a change of heart.

MT/WKU won't vote for anyone in the east as it would send one of us to the west division.

You need a 3rd vote to be able to block.

I wouldn't be surprised if they stay at 13 to wait and see what the Big 12 does.

I'm certain we would find at least a third vote, we could probably get most if not all of the west division to vote no because a vote for GS is a vote to expand the west division into Kentucky or Tennessee.

UAB's hypothetical replacement won't be joining the east. My preference is USA, but would be fine with Louisiana, I'm staunchly against NMSU and stAte and without taking divisional alignment into account I'd easily vote for GS over at least NMSU(not sure about stAte), but we have to consider divisions and as long as a vote for GS is a vote to split MT/WKU, you've got no shot.

If you are saying it will be impossible to add an eastern team, then Ark St would be the only school everyone could agree on as USA and ULL would be blocked by the schools in state or close by.

When MTSU and WKU says add ULL, La Tech would respond by saying to add GS or GaSt. Same thing with USM and USA. So that eliminates all 4 schools and you are left with Ark St.

That is of course if adding an Eastern school is off the table as you state.

Arkansas State and Life College to CUSA?

You might have to go with Life there. They were 8-3 in the TransSouth basketball standings coming in 2nd and won their conference tourney and went to the NAIA tourney. Sounds like they have the basketball chops you are searching for.

Maybe not currently, I heard Troy's rodeo team is taking a step back this year anyhow, but I did see ULM's water skiing captain on SI the other day.

Ooops. I guess I just started the ULM to CUSA rumor. We may see it confirmed on a West Virginia website soon.

That one felt like a gut punch and I'm not even vested in the whole thing though I would just as soon UAB stick around to help create stability within the G5.

I don't know how anyone reads that article and reaches the conclusion, "oh yeah, everything will be just fine".

Depends. If you use the LaTech can count Shreveport rule then Astate counts Little Rock.

Based on my time Shreveport AState wins that handily with far greater interest in Little Rock.

Seriously though one thing AState has to its advantage is where we recruit. If you want to avoid increased competition for players in any CUSA member's primary recruiting area only three schools make sense AState, Troy, and USA.

Texas Western basketball>>> all SBC programs combined... Charlotte is a founding member of C-USA. ODU has 11 NCAA tourney appearances since 1980.

I forget you people don't attempt to understand anything other than football. Did you know the SBC used to be a top tier basketball conference before all the good schools left?

Also, you're a moron. edit: in order to remove personal attack,"You're last post makes me think you're a moron"

If UAB drops football...
Charlotte and ODU were members of the Sun Belt as well. I figured if I was going to inject a little humor in the thread, I'd at least have the SBC move towards a reasonable outcome. But if the Sun Belt took UTEP, divisions for football may be an issue:

West - UTEP, NMSU, Idaho, Texas State, Louisiana, ULM
East - Arkansas State, App State, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, USA, Troy

If there was going to be a reshuffling, the best thing to do would be to send App State to C-USA in exchange for WKU and MTSU. That move would allow C-USA to get back to 12 (fewer ways to to split the capped CFP money), and the move would largely be revenue-neutral for the SBC (an additional $1 MM from the CFP for the new member). C-USA could even make a parachute payment to WKU and MTSU if it wasn't revenue neutral for them.

C-USA
West - UTEP, UNT, Rice, UTSA, LTU, USM
East - FAU, FIU, App, UNCC, ODU, Marshal

SBC
West - Idaho, NMSU, Texas St, Ark St, UL, ULM
East - USA, Troy, WKU, MTSU, Ga St, Ga So

Way back we had the Sun Belt @ UMass on ESPN - 1993

The issue is that most Sun Belt teams concentrate on 2 sports, Football and baseball.

The Sun Belt is consistently a top conference in the RPI in baseball and there is an abundance of talent. Compare the number of MLB players from Michigan to Alabama. Big Ten states turn out fewer MLB players than the south and if you adjust the numbers per capita it is staggering.

When I was in high school in Arkansas you didn't pay a great deal of attention to the printed basketball schedule because if one of your opponents was in the playoffs in football the games would be rescheduled in the lower divisions because they couldn't put 7 guys in a uniform to play a basketball game.

Basketball and baseball used to be king in Arkansas and basketball has faded. If all five Division I hoops teams in Arkansas had a home basketball game the same night the combined crowds wouldn't fill UArk's basketball arena.

The only sports programs that make money, at least at the G5 level, are football and MBB. Every other sport is a drain on resources. To have a major sports program, a decent MBB program is a must.
