You are one piece of work. Nobody gives a damn what you think of their tv viewing preferences. You do not know what other people prefer. People prefer things that you do not. Sun Belt football is not the ONLY football on ESPN3 and obviously other people in the world watch football on that channel.
In fact I can go over and sign on ESPN3 and watch USC versus California and East Carolina versus Cincinnatti right now. Even though they are on tv.
WHY did they put it on there when its on TV? Because SOME PEOPLE PREFER TO WATCH IT THERE.
There you go again jumping into something that no one asked for your opinion...
but since you gave it I will repeat what I said...
NO ONE buys a 70 inch TV and spends 1 to 4 thousand and going to choose watching a game streamed over a HDTV channel. And I will repeat just for you ...you are lying to yourself if you say you would chose a stream of your teams game over being able to watch that game on TV...
I know you're a little slow but we are talking about sending that streaming video out to your tv. Not sitting there watching while you are doing something else on the pc.
unless
This summer, when the US National Team was playing in the World Cup, between 3-5 million people watched the game on ESPN3, despite the fact it was on ESPN as well.
Obviously those people are all lying to themselves.
No, those people were at work.

It is amazing and sad that some of you spend so much time going around to find out who is talking about you. Kinda like the GaSots obsession with our board. Guess that's why they fit in here so well....
Aww, they're just enjoying their 1st year success. Cut 'em some slack.
So how do you explain the last five years?
We actually played you guys during that time, but GaSots were more prevalent on our board than USA fans.

A. If you are paying thousands of dollars for a 70" HDTV, you have some warped priorities. If you are doing so just to watch G5 football, you are an idiot.
B. I don't think anybody said they would rather watch it on ESPN 3 - but we would absolutely rather have the option than not. I don't care who your contract is with, G5 games are going to become more scarce on broadcast TV, and ESPN has the best option in place to deal with that. And yes, I will gladly watch my team on a streamed channel over watching it over broadcast if the contract that put it there was a better overall deal for my school.

As a Southern Miss fan, I've seen us have many great members leave and us be left behind constantly. It can be frustrating. If anything was learned during this last round of expansion, it's that it doesn't matter if you get a big city always, if people don't care to watch the schools, your television contract won't just magically grow.
I think we'd look more toward a quality program than a big city program for the sake of a big city.
USA may fit the profile, but USM would be livid if they were allowed to join. They would fight it tooth and nail. We've seen too many startups pass us up and we don't want any more competition in our own backyard. We aren't going to allow this to happen. Some will say that we don't have the votes to stop it, but I really think you underestimate how many schools would side with us. A lot of schools owe their being in the conference to us and really don't want to be on our bad side. I don't say that acting like we have major political clout and can kick them or anything. But just like...we respect each other enough that you don't wanna give the other the finger. Schools from CUSA 2.0 that are left and additions like La Tech and MTSU would support USM.
I think the choice for USM would be ULL. Most fans were mad they didn't get an invite last time. And while I'm sure La Tech fans wouldn't be the happiest, I don't think they'd be directly opposed to the addition. They aren't Monroe, they bring a good overall program, and good food/location/fanbase.
Just my opinion.
I thought ULL was holding out for the Big 12?
ULL would be blocked by Latech. I personally would love another drivable game every year and have a little respect for ULL but I am the exception not the rule.
I think ULL will be stuck in the SBC until conferences remember that sports are about enjoyment more than money. Yea, I know that will never happen. I would love for the G5 to setup regional conferences to lower costs for the schools and fans. I would much rather play ULL than ODU or any east coast school. Tech had the same problem in the wac.
Hope to see the Cajuns in Ruston next year. I bet the attendance is 27k to sold out. I think we should play every year and the losers athletic website should have to be the winners colors for the week after. ULL and Tech could be an epic rivalry even if we are in different conferences

I would say 70% of the content that is on my TV is streamed. There are simple and easy solutions for all the problems mentioned in this thread.
I'm not sure what the argument is about... ESPN is clearly the better platform right now, but Fox paid CUSA more. It's a pretty easy decision for CUSA.

You speak truth. And with regard to the first point, as PV pointed out, things continue to change. I actually benefit from being a SBC fan, as I don't have cable but do have a Roku and ESPN3 access. I've gotten to properly watch more of our games this year than my wife has for her Auburn Tigers, which we often end up watching on a computer (or, if we're lucky, we get the skycam or Espanol feeds on ESPN3).

You say that with a lot of conviction, though as we all know such decisions are made by university presidents, not the fans on message boards. Keep in mind that those are the same presidents who work closely other university presidents and local and state legislators when they need XYZ project funded, etc......and I suspect that very serious consideration would first go into any decision to block another state university from inclusion in an athletic conference.....especially when both organizations are part of the same state university system.

Where in the rulebook does it say that you have to play Ga Tech and NC State competitively to get bowl eligible? I was referencing the woe is me attitude from their fans wanting to get a rule changed after the fact. Most of us have gone through the transition phase and accepted the rules, no reason to think they are somehow special. I wasn't referencing the quality of their team.

It may force the College football fan at home to use the internet instead of the television, but its not like no sensible fan watches ESPN3. A lot do.

RE: If UAB drops football...
I think the biggest drawback for TSU is that 5 schools in a 14 team conference makes one hell of a voting block. That might not sound like much of a big deal, but it would essentially confirm that anything that requires a 2/3 vote (which in most conferences are votes tied to bylaws and admittance) could be dictated by the Texas schools.
It is probably the biggest thing against them at this point. The other Texas schools would not mind (it would help UTSA a bit by eliminating an OOC opponent) additonal drivable games and I would not be shocked to see the UAB situation as the start of a movement for others schools like Hawaii.
If Hawaii goes then UTEP might slide over to the MWC and then the game of realignments continues.

CUSA fans on their board that are lurking over here and running back just don't get the position of most stAte fans. It isn't that CUSA is bad or that the SBC is better. I am 100% sure that we would compete just as well over there and could accomplish the same goals. If we were to move there, we wouldn't be upset. We just wouldn't be turning cartwheels either because we would be switching one G5 with some nice regional rivals for a G5 with some nice regional rivals but no real difference otherwise. We would be sharing 5 bowls with 14 teams instead of 4 bowls with 11 teams. We would be a longshot to get in the playoff or an access bowl in either league. We can already see pretty much every football game in person or on television.
I would love to play La. Tech, USM, MTSU and UNT since they are within driving distance but I would hate to give up playing ULL, ULM, Troy and USA. Recruiting wouldn't change. We are already on our way to having top notch facilities for the G5. Our attendance is very good.
CUSA would be fine. I just don't think it would really offer anything different. The same is true of the MAC. CUSA would definitely be preferable to the MAC though.
