Then yeah, it's hilariously bad.

Tennessee #13?! They lost pretty much everyone, ostracized their successful coach, and lost a ton of recruits when he bolted for Cal. They could be the worst team in the SEC this coming year.

MSU ahead of Wisconsin (and I'm a State fan)? Louisville #1? Kentucky #10? I really have no clue how anyone can take this seriously.

This list doesn't even limit itself to just D-1. they're going at least through D-III. the idea that in the preseason, anyone could possibly know that Grinnell's offense is better than Towson's is absurd. these lists are there to fill time until the season starts, and to get clicks from people like us who are anxious for any little college basketball tidbit in lieu of real news.

i'm interested to see how those who actually know the MAC rank us compared to the rest of the MAC, but even then, very few people can speak about our (or any other teams') new players with any kind of intelligence. we really just have to be patient, but what's worse than that? (see KPJ's poignant comments about wanting things now now NOW!!!)

Well and then there's Blue Ribbon's forecast for the coming year:

We aren't going to get a lot of preseason love from anyone, since no one knows what we are going to get from our plethora of newcomers. Good thing they play the games. We won our division the year we were unanimously picked to finish last. I take every preseason analysis, especially of the MAC, with a grain of salt.

BTW, I just bought the download version of the Blue Ribbon Yearbook.

Best sports book in the land. I hope to have my digital copy soon.

I won't copy it here (obviously it's copyrighted) but I hope to be a more informed poster.

Last year I remember a lot of quotes from Murphy and that is... yes... right from the horse's mouth.

RE: Men's Basketball 2014/15
No problem Ray, people tend to forget that Blue Ribbon is a well respected publication. Again even before it came out I was at EMU being third-fourth in the MAC West. Most would agree that Toledo is at the top of the pile in the MAC West, so the argument would be are we better than what WMU has returning or an improving NIU who gave us fits last year?

I'm already plotting a significant birthday to be spent watch an EMU home hoops game. My wife asked what I wanted and I said to take in an EMU hoops team.

One poster "suggested" that I don't support this team. Anyone who has been on this board should really know better.

emu79, I can't imagine anyone questioning your support for EMU. Maybe your realist perspective is perceived as pessimism by some.

Regardless, you are one of the most valuable posters here with the linked information you provide and balancing us over-optimistic fans with your realism. So please keep it coming!!

Go EMU!!!

I find EMU79, circa 2014, maybe too upbeat on football (we're HOPING that 2015, 2016 and beyond will achieve a good record) vs. men's basketball which HAS achieved a good record, e.g. 2014.

It is nice to have hopes and aspirations but having accomplished something should not be discounted or downplayed.

It is like two runners:

Runner #1: I would like to run a marathon,

Runner #2: I have run a marathon.

Men's basketball is like #2 (they have accomplished a goal). EMU FB is like #1 (hoping to accomplish a goal).

We should congratulate #1 and expect good things from him going forward.

That's actually funny, I predicted a 4-8 record and then downgraded to a 3-9 for 2014. Hardly the instant turnaround scenario. I might add that 4-8 or 3-9 is still achievable this season not out of the bounds of reality. Again I can't recall you putting down a prediction (you must have learned from your Ron English years) for the 2014 season. But again compare my predictions to some of the other posters on this board. And please don't get me started on individual player performance predictions.

Ok.... Is this counselling session over? (I'm Kidding)
Hope you have a GREAT birthday at the game!
Maybe we can have Anthony Orlando in Marketing put together something acknowledging your birthday at the game and have the announcer shout you out on your special day!

Who is debating 2014? No one had rosy scenario expectations (except maybe NuPudge but he isn't, sadly, posting).

So 2014 FB is a non-issue or something we all agree.

Where we DISAGREE:

2014/2015 men's basketball team. Some are more optimistic. Others, not mentioning a name, less optimistic.

As far as football say 2016, 2017, etc. WHO knows? And on WHAT BASIS are they making the prediction? How can I be optimistic? How can I be pessimistic.

I feel comfortable on a 2014/15 men's hoops prediction because I know which players will be playing and most have played college ball.

Lot of the players on the 2017 FB team haven't even gone to their senior prom. 03-lmfao so I KNOW. I know WHAT?????

Just think how far EMU men's hoops has come.

Three years ago, Murphy had to go out to JUCO and get Harper (a player with a very limited skill set) to play PG, 'cause the cupboard was bare. (fortunately Lampley moved over and did a good job and saved the season).

Now this dude 04-bow will be a backup PG or split time with MT III.

Guys, that is why I'm very optimistic about the progress being made with our men's basketball program. 04-cheers

If Bond can play the point effectively, that's just downright scary. 6'6, fast as hell, great athlete, decent shot (from what I can tell in his highlights). I'd settle for keeping him off the ball, but if he can play PG, that's a rare breed. I'm excited to finally see him in action.

Let me put some 'analytic thinking' which I learned, I think, at EMU:

1). EMU has Raven Lee and Jodan Price, both sophomores, at the SG position.

2). These highlights of PG/SG Bond come from Antonio Green.

3). EMU recruited Larry Bonam from Dearborn Heights Robichaud as a JUCO transfer, with junior eligibility, but who has a 'relationship' with Antonio Green (is Antonio Green a coach at Robichaud?).

Assume you are Antonio Green, and not EMU Steve, what is going through your head when Bonam asks for his opinion???
