This is still a hugely unlikely possibility, buuuuuuut: What if ODU and UTSA reach the conference title game? Good sign that the conference got the two best startups and will help build CUSA into the top G5 conference, or a bad sign in that two schools that didn't have football 10 years ago already are playing for a title?

Again, hugely unlikely, mostly because ODU still has much to prove even after today. But something I've wondered about for a bit.

I thought there was hope for the defense when they played pretty well in the first half and did NOT give up a touchdown with the 2nd quarter seconds ticking off. But, alas, it was typical ODU defense in the second half.

I always thought ODU would be quick to be a good team in CUSA ... especially with that quarterback.

The ODU Defense played well until late in the second half. They were gassed.

Let's not forget that Rice moved the ball pretty well against 2 Top 10 teams, and that most of our Defense is still made up of FCS recruits. We'll get there.

That's right, Cr8n. The D played much more aggressively and tackled much better. They are more disciplined and run their routes better. The secondary was also much improved, as Rice didn't get behind them often for big gains. It was only when the depth issue reared it's ugly head late in the game that the Rice offense was able to produce. We get FBS calibre players in the next two or three classes and that defense will be able to keep from getting worn down.

Missing defensive tackle Christian Covington was the biggest void for Rice. That dude is a game changer

ODU's Poncho Barnwell knocked Driphus out of the game, it's not like he tripped on his own two feet.

Anyways, Bobby Wilder went out his way to state that Rice is the better team with their full compliment of players and ODU is fortunate to leave with a win. He cannot identify exactly who Rice is or who Old Dominion is off of this one game.

Rice, you guys failed to get consistent pressure on that dude. I thought you had figured that out in the second half but you kept blowing hot and cold with it.

ODU is a very good team with a hell of a QB. We are decimated by injuries on our defensive line and secondary. We just couldn't get consistent pressure, and when a good QB has time to throw...look out. Major props to ODU!

Great win, ODU. I was very impressed with Heinicke before the game started and left even more impressed. Our best pass rusher and our top 2 safeties were out, but I won't use injuries as any excuse. We never came close to any stops against that offense...would be surprised if there were double digit 3rd downs for ODU that game. So I doubt injuries made much of a difference. Keep it up
