When I worked for Apple I opened the stores in Nashville and Knoxville...I actually lived at College Grove in the Boro...I was never so happy to return home, to Memphis.

I wouldn't be pumping my chest out. Memphis is 3rd on this list. I said top not 1st.

I also see Nashville and Knoxville on that list...TN, as a State, has a crime problem.

Of course every big city in TN is going to be on a list about TN crime. Those cities however don't come in 4th in the nation in violent crime like memphis. http://www.forbes.com/pictures/mlj45jggj/4-memphis/

That's based on 2 1/2 year old data...crime in Memphis is now down 21.6% from 2007...and dropping.

Looks real safe...

I seriously don't take offense to it. And it's nice to actually meet that FIRST person who is happy to live in this suck town. I gave it an opportunity to be a positive living experience but the locals (folks like you) and this environment make it impossible.

Seriously, why do you live somewhere you hate so much? No job could ever justify that to me unless it was some seven-figure job.

I want you to be where you are happy so Memphis can move on without the constant b@&$?ing and moaning from the Miserables.

You have a car, Nashville has jobs open...go...fly free, little bird!

Well not 7 figures, but a secure 6 figure job will do it... I don't hate Memphis enough to leave it because I live like a king here. Lol. Most everyone comes to Memphis for a job. It's not by personal decision.

Biting the hand that feeds you...so damn typical.

But as Katt Williams says: "Make yo paper boo-boo"

And yes, choosing to move your family for a job is both a personal, and business decision...you made your bed, now lie in it.

With the money I make I can deal with the BS that is Memphis. Lol

Also you had very little "cred" to begin with but quoting Katt Williams just takes the cake. Lol

Then stop complaining...Memphis and it's jobs such as: FedEx, AutoZone, International Paper, Medtronic, Mitsubishi, Electrolux, Nike, Brother, Sharp, St Jude, the University of Memphis, Rhodes, CBU, the MED, etc...are the reason you can brag about "living like a king" in this city you hate so much.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you. (and your family)

Those jobs (and the money) don't change the morale of the city. Like I said, I've tried. I came in with an open mind but am now jaded. I'm one of the most easy-going people you'll meet. I think you're getting defensive because you've come across plenty who say what I say. Universities aside you know there are too many problems here. Also I belong to none of those corporations. Also I'll bite any of the 21 host cities who feed me. I stay in Memphis for my reasons. And it has NOTHING to do with this suck town.

Hate to break it to you, but from the perspective of folks where I live --northern Iowa/southern Minnesota area--most who have been to both Memphis and the Nashville area, can't tell much difference between the two.

The narcissism of small differences I think is the term that applies to the city smack between the areas.

That's the first I've heard of it. People in Nashville are much happier though. I'm not particularly concerned with those who live in Iowa and Minnesota. I've lived both places. There is a huge difference. And I've known plenty of people from all over who would beg to differ. Nationally there is a huge perception and reality gap between Nashville and Memphis.

My point is that the smack between Nashville and Memphis seems about the same as the smack between, say, Omaha and Des Moines---where an outsider couldn't tell the difference between either one, but locals magnify it for some reason. That's the term "narcissism of small differences."

You sure won't be changing my mind, and If you enjoy being miserable here, I'll just pity you from over here in wonderful 38104. No amount of money would make me live somewhere I couldn't stand. The folks I live around here in midtown revitalized Cooper-Young and Overton Square...I love visiting the Zoo and catching shows at the Shell. You sound like someone out in East Memphis or the burbs with their nose up in the air. Cooper-Young Fest was great last week.

Well I haven't. But I have a brother who lives in Lincoln and a sister-in-law who lived in Ames. I really like Lincoln when I visit but they both have stated they prefer Nashville.

And since you brought it up I have known 4 people from Minnesota since I've been here. 1 moved back after less than 1 year working for one of the companies your boy listed. The other 3 work with me and speak daily of getting out.
