If they're elderly and infirmed. By saying infirmed that could open all kinds of doors.

Not really, you can tell if someone is old...if their doctor says they cannot leave a medical facility, they are infirmed.

Being old or sick doesn't take away your right to vote...

So is drinking...point?

You don't want to go to war, don't join the military. The armed forces aren't a physical fitness daycamp for folks that want the government to pay for their college educations.

So we didn't do a draft in WWII and Vietnam?

Are you saying we should abolish the draft?

Well, if you couldn't draft folks to conduct a war, then that's a pretty effective way to eliminate expanded participation in unpopular wars. As a proponent of individual rights, I'm no fan of forced coercion.

exactly.

I wouldn't mind sending the DMV out to the care facilities to take folks pictures for ID cards; or setting up polling places in these locations either.

RE: Around Campus: Voting for Obama is cool?
Unemployment is, in part, a reflection of a change in American thinking being taught to young children. There have never been enough jobs and there never will be. The fact that so many American graduates thing along very narrow lines prevents them from being more broadly based thinkers and innovators. They think the entire process of life is a step by step process where education inevitably leads to employment and then on. That's a major failure in our education system and one that is exacerbated by teaching for a test constantly.

Life is not linear and set along rails.

I see this as the largest problem in my profession especially. People are trained to think too linearly.

Silliness...Obamacare gives you access to a marketplace to shop and compare private health insurance...that sounds nowhere close to the single payer system you fear so.

I kinda take offense to that.

That is going to happen at times
You won't be able to please everyone all the time. But to think that all renters don't produce or have skin in the game is crazy. I rent because every 18-24 months I move to a different military base to build barracks. So do I not produce?

Harvard is a different game all together. It is all about money. If you are white with a VIP last name or your dad is a Wall Street executive, you are getting in with lowered standards since your dad can pay the $70kish per year tuition out of pocket and put your name on a few buildings. If you are black and have exceptional grades and SATs, you aren't only getting in, but you are going for free. Getting into Harvard from a poor or middle class white family is almost impossible. This is where they get the affirmative action from.

Or simply require a Dr's note...easy solution.

Moreover, why have IDs? We already have SS numbers.

(06-23-2014 08:44 AM)ODU BLUE Wrote:  Why?

President Obama and Democrats in Congress were hit by two major reports recently that reinforced what many, if not all of us knew about his economic policies: They are killing jobs.

A Gallup report confirmed what millions of Americans now know about the Obama economy that he and Democrats in Congress still insist is growing stronger. It's simply not true?

The average student is now $33,000 in debt. According to a new study by the Pew Research Center, carrying that kind of debt will have certain predictable effects. It will impede our ability to accumulate wealth, for example. We will also borrow more for other things than people without debt, and naturally we will find our debt level growing, not shrinking, as the years pass.

Social programs are underfunded and we are the ones Obama expects to fund them, even though they will not be solvent when we need them.

Sixty percent of U.S. college graduates cannot find a full-time job in their chosen profession, according to job placement firm Adecco. 53% of us will be living in our parents basement for the foreseeable future.

Getting a degree used to be a stepping stone to limitless career opportunities. Under dem policies it's more of a hiatus from living under our parents' roof.

Typical conservatives in this thread-- Trying to take away peoples' vote, instead of broadening their dying party's appeal. I will give Rand Paul credit though for supporting an expansion by making drug felons eligible.

As for student loan debt, I say, again, the GOP is the party of rich, old men. If you're not that, you should be voting Democrat. Let's run down the list of reasons:

-Obamacare lets kids stay on their parents' plan until 26, and it gives you subsidies for buying insurance after this. Many Democrats want Medicare for all. Republicans support Medicare wholeheartedly.... but only for the old.

-As part of the fiscal cliff deal, Republicans let the payroll tax (which disproportionately falls on wage earning millenials) holiday expire and held tax cuts for people making under $400k hostage for millionaires' tax cuts.

-Student loan reform! How could you talk about student loan debt and ignore the fact Dems are the ones fighting for millenials?! Senator Elizabeth Warren has proposed a bill to allow student borrowers to borrow at the same rates as the banks, and Obama has implemented Pay as You Earn which caps repayment as a percentage of income and offers forgiveness after 20 years. Republicans blocked Warren's bill and oppose any real reform. There is $9B in profits generated from student loans annually which is unconscionable.

-Job creation under Bush and Obama:

The GOP routinely blocks spending bills that independent economists say will create millions of jobs.

-There plenty of other social reasons like gay rights and the fact the GOP ignores global warming completely, the consequences of which we are going to have to live with in our lifetimes much moreso than the boomers. But if you're worried about student loan debt, you need to get off the GOP bandwagon, at least momentarily.

Libs would want American citizens to get Three-Fifths a vote, while illegals get a whole 1 vote. Putting citizens in financial chains is the goal.

Because they can't find a decent job and buy their own in the Obama economy.

-As part of the fiscal cliff deal, Republicans let the payroll tax (which disproportionately falls on wage earning millenials) holiday expire and held tax cuts for people making under $400k hostage for millionaires' tax cuts.

Those making $400 thousand are ones trying to create jobs and provide healthcare for their employees.

Universities continue to raise tuitions and administrators and law professors like Obama scoop up the easy money while leaving students holding the bag. Can you say scam!

-Job creation under Bush and Obama:

Your chart shows crony government temporary jobs. Figures speak for themself.

-There plenty of other social reasons like gay rights and the fact the GOP ignores global warming completely, the consequences of which we are going to have to live with in our lifetimes much moreso than the boomers. But if you're worried about student loan debt, you need to get off the GOP bandwagon, at least momentarily.

If you are on the Democratic bandwagon your goal is probably to avoid meaningful employment and find a government job where you scam taxpayers.

Gay rights? With our economy going down the tube no one really cares whose anus you prefer to have sex in?

Max Power,

Wow....how in the world do you believe that a debtor should not pay their debts? Morally and ethically that is so flawed don't you think? What kind of a man does not keep his word?

No one made you or any other college puke sign their names on a dotted line to major in some useless degree. America needs ditch diggers too.

Who said that and when? Thank you.

Idealistic college age kids (not students anyway) they may be taking up space in a desk/chair somewhere, but not aware of the seriousness of any issues. Reality today is setting in with the constant and high rising fuel costs. I guess a college attendee would think it idealistic and "Cool" to go along with this folly of electric cars and reduction of the use of coal to generate the power it takes to turn on their flat screen and watch whatever it is that college age attendees watch. They might try C-SPAN and catch a live session of congress for a change. It would bore the hell out of them and they would be soon looking for their "X-Box" to be entertained.

Anyone here think differently?

Just on this one issue, you need to read and or PM Bubbapt and get some facts. He's forgotten more than you or I will ever know. He knows the subject well and he ain't no Democrat. The policies of BHO are counterproductive to practicality on this subject and especially in light of the flawed discussion on "Green House" gases.

If you don't know bubbapt, I suggest you wander over to the memphistigers.org P-R forum and read his posts. If that is not good enough for you, Do PLEASE send him a PM and ask. You'll get your education on "Global Warming".

YES,I ignore the hoax of the Global Warming argument. Research it and understand.
