RE: AAC Spring Meetings this week (Official Updates Thread)
Well, could the schools the MWC, AAC and CUSA that can afford the new costs form a new conference?

1.So the conference commissioner comes out and says all AAC schools will pay COA.
2. Random reporter speculates with no fact or sources that maybe not all schools in AAC can do this.
3. AAC fans begin naming schools that they think can't do COA
4. Insanity and insults fly between schools
Where have I seen this thread before...

Yet I'm called a troll for suggesting this. Wolken isn't the only reporter suggesting the AAC isn't quite as unified on FCOA as Aresco claims. We shall see how this shakes out.

Yea - I read one say " U Conn is in, obviously. Schools like Tulane may not be." That tells me clearly he's talking out of his a$$ and has no info at all and is just guessing.
He may be guessing right (although not on us), but I haven't seen anything more than guesswork.

AAC meetings start tonight. Aresco has said every school in that league will do COA, but we’ll see. That could be a big dividing line.
Dan Wolken @DanWolken 20m
If we get into a situation where some schools do and some school’s don’t within a given league, that will be really interesting.
This is going to be the biggest issue to watch. If all of the AAC is on board with it, then I would assume that would be a clear recruiting advantage we'd have over the SBC, C-USA and the MAC, and apparently half the MWC (I believe I read elsewhere that not all of the MWC was going to do full cost).
If only half the AAC is able, then things get real interesting.
If only half is the AAC is able then I think we start to see the formation of a new conference comprised of those able from the AAC and the MWC.
Way more than half will do it. I bet all will cover it. Even if it means cutting sports.
That may not be an option for many. IIRC, there is an NCAA requirement to sponsor 14 sports at the Div. I level. UCF only sponsors 15 sports (6 men, 9 women). We can't drop a women's sport without Title IX implications, and.......I could very well be mistaken about this........but I think 6 mens sports is the minimum, too.

I suppose trying to keep up with the 'P5' is the thing to do, but I don't think it's going to matter - they want to keep the G5 out of the way and will continue to do whatever they can to achieve it.

No kidding --- I mean do we even know what the actual expenses will be at this point?

Tulane...here's your chance to shut up La Tech, ULL, and ULM...full cost of attendance and membership in the AAC.

We voted for it when the NCAA proposed, and we're going to do it.
We've always spent far more money than those schools have.

ffs, this is exactly what Dan and his ilk do, get people talking about **** that isn't even a discussion. The Commish said we are all onboard and there's no reason to assume otherwise because of a tweet Dip**** Dan sent out to get hits on his feed.

RE: AAC Spring Meetings this week (Official Updates Thread)
This appears to be speculation on Wolkens part. He is just asking the question, likely because it appears to be such an issue in the Mountain West. My guess is that the AAC wont go with a "pure" cost of attendance stipend (which would be completely different for every school). Instead, it will likely be a flat equal amount that all schools pay and does not exceed the FCoA of any school in the conference. My guess is the number will be between 2-4K. Im also guessing we will match a number of other P5 benefits. Im guessing the primary benefits we match will be extended scholarship time to finish degrees, extended medical coverage (which is iffy and may be optional as it will be probably cost more than the stipend), extended food service options, and relaxed rules allowing contact with agents. My guess is that we will also match the P5 in areas where there is little cost (for instance, limiting the actual true number of hours being demanded for sports by our student athletes).

Unless something has changed in the last month or so, Tulane is all for the COA.

So is Wolken the only one covering the meetings? I wouldn't even know they were going on if he didn't report it a few days ago. I thought UCF had a good beat writer too.

Don't think any news has really come out yet. Would the meetings have just started today?

They start tonight, but I figured some of the writers would at least tell us they were there. Not a word on Twitter.

The Sun Belt presidents have already agreed to the stipends.

So did Louisiana. By the way we are closing the gap on y'all without the benefit of having a $30k/year tuition figured into the athletic budget.

If there are programs in the MWC having trouble with the COA, not just the stipend, then there is no way the entire Sun Belt can afford them.

As a whole there isn't a ton of very expensive universities to attend in the Sun Belt. Hell out of state tuition for Louisiana is less than $8500 per year including room and board. Instate tuition is less than $4000 per year and the TOPS program covers tuition fr qualifying students.
ULMost might not be able to cover it, but most will. If they don't they will fall behind.

What does that have to do with anything? Its not just tuition.
