jmuduke25 was right that if he wasn't the starting qb, he'd want to transfer. Not that I disagreed with him. It's unfortunate, but i'm not remotely surprised.

Wow. I guess he read the handwriting on the wall and figure he'd better get out while he still could.

Disappointing, since we'll lose QB depth AGAIN. That being said--fascinating that Birdsong is already giving up the fight!

I mean I understand you got outplayed by all accounts in the spring game. I don't have inside connections so I don't know if it's something else then the spring game but to just up and quit like this the second things get tough for you... I just lost all respect for him.

If true...F him. I predict a disappointing future for the remainder of his life if he can't be bothered to take up a challenge.

Either Withers told them that Lee would have the inside track at the starting job, or Birdsong sees that he can't compete with Lee and wants to get out now. Lee looked much better at the spring game on Saturday but there's still a ton of practice time left before the season starts. Seems like a rash decision from Birdsong.

I have been a big Birdsong supporter all along. I still think he is the better QB. I'm very disappointed to lose him.

It is very unfortunate, but I assume he could tell that Lee was going to be the starter. Withers stated that he wouldn't name a starter until August which may have been his way to try to keep Birdsong around. Good luck to him.

Wow. He's only one play away from being starter again, look how he got the job in the first place, basically.
But, it's the most important position on the field and he was Mickey's recruit. Maybe he just got the word that he wasn't going to play any more. I guess I'd transfer too if I wasn't wanted.

Tough situation. Sucks all the way around. I wish him well, without the Coaching change I'm sure he would have stayed put.

If he transfers to ODU... he's dead to me.

As I said in another thread, Birdsong is an attractive transfer since he has a redshirt year to burn. I wish him all the best. Since I have no insight into the reasoning behind his departure, I am not going to criticize the guy in any way.

I really looking forward to seeing what Vad can do.

I hate that he's leaving too but he is way too talented to be an FCS backup QB. Only shot we had to keep him was if he was content to be a backup and enjoy college life at JMU.

Ok, so now who is Lee's backup?
