RE: Birdsong to transfer
If he goes to ODU, he's still going to be 2nd string QB at best. Probably lower. Why transfer because you're upset about not starting to go somewhere... that you won't start.

I agree sounds like politics to me too. Withers is gonna do things his way no matter what.

I am hoping there is substance behind all of this and we don't end up with a Alex Wood type team.

RE: Birdsong to transfer
Birdsong has to sit out anyway. If he can transfer out and sit a year then play for a FBS school, ODU or Marshall...prob makes sense if writing is on the wall at JMU with system etc.

Unfortunate to lose the record holder for passing at JMU, and he had 2 more years to get better.

Who knows maybe players played harder for Lee too? I heard there were a lot of dropped passes on Birdsong on Sat.

Coming from a senior on last years team, MB did not earn respect from his teammates. Said he was cocky and not in the way you would want your leader to be.

If he's looking for playing time, ODU would not be a size choice right now. We are loaded at QB and WR positions.

Guys that don't want to earn a job are not useful to your club. No loss here.

RE: Birdsong to transfer
Ray Charles could see that Vad Lee is Withers guy. Birdsong is a second class citizen to Withers. New Sheriff in town will name his own Deputies. Birdsong was Mickey's guy and it hurts to be demoted when you were "the man". I doubt seriously that he goes to ODU. He'll go somewhere like Towson who will use him two years from now, or Richmond. He might even be a good fit for Jimmy Laycock to coach him up.

So, don't beat him up in typical JMU message board fashion. Thank him fro what he brought and wish him well.

I know what it is like to play for new coaches at JMU. I played for 3 different coaches in 4 years. Had to re-prove myself 3 times. Fortunately, I remained a starter ech time.

Does the CAA allow players to transfer to other CAA schools?

RE: Birdsong to transfer
I was able to find this in the CAA Football Bylaws. Does athletic financial aid mean scholarships or is that separate?

3.02 Any student-athlete who transfers from one Conference institution to another is not eligible for athletic financial aid during the year of residency. An appeal of this rule to the Board of Directors for extenuating circumstances may be requested by the Director of Athletics of the institution to which the student-athlete intends to transfer.

I heard this was a likely move during the game on Saturday, so I don't think it was based on his performance during the game. As has been noted, this is nothing but politics, and I hope Birdsong finds a good place to land and play out his last couple years of school.

Re: Birdsong to transfer
This sucks. JMU was in a position of power at QB with little vulnerability to injuries.
Now the team is one football injury away from a train wreck on offense.
Feels like last year.

Um...that is every football team, for the most part. Quarterback is the most important position on the field nowadays. The New England Patriots, the Green Bay Packers, Penn State, Texas A&M, Oregon and, yes, little ole JMU are one injury at quarterback away from having a horrible season.

I wish him well. I hope he lands on his feet.

I wonder if Durden would want/need him at Chatty? (If Birdsong goes the I-AA route.)

RE: Birdsong to transfer
Honestly, the writing was on the wall as soon as Vad committed. I'm sure he had a bit of a wink and a nod from Withers. You just don't transfer from a quality FBS program in the ACC (where you're the starter) like Georgia Tech to an FCS school unless you're pretty damn sure you're going to start. I know he wasn't crazy about the GT scheme, but this is not a situation like Rascati or even Cosh who were blocked. I mean, he split time a little but he started every game for GT. It didn't take Nostradamus to predict this one.

Did you feel the same way about Rascati? And what about Vad Lee?

I blame no one for transferring somewhere where they can realize more playing time.
