Slipknot has to be an acquired taste I guess....what I have heard... I could never get into.
I guess that is why some Hardcore I can't get into, while its not the "beats" or the "riffs" its the screaming/scowling vocals that turn me off.

FWIW, I think Kid Rock is one of the few musical talents that can pull of rap, metal, country, and southern rock and it all sound half way decent and not half assed.

Mel Torme - Comin' Home Baby
In my younger days, I would have laughed at this kind of music. Now in my mid-life, I find I really enjoy it. I still like punk and some alternative bands, but I have come to appreciate the great songwriters of old and the great singers who interpreted these timeless classics.
I mean, really, it's not like they'll be covering "Kerosene" (see my Big Black post a few pages ago, right after I posted the Tormé clip) years from now, but people will always want to hear great singers like Mel Tormé, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Peggy Lee, Patsy Cline, Paul Anka et al.
Here's a rockin' one from The Smithereens:
"House That We Used To Live In"
from Green Thoughts LP

"The Velvet Fog" honors Kramer on Seinfeld:
(if you read the credits, you'll see the name of Brian Cranston, who played Dr, Tim Whatley the dentist on Seinfeld. Cranston was later to become Walter White, lead meth-maker on Breaking Bad!)
Mel Tormé
"When You're Smilin'"
