Remember the special on TV prior to the Memphis game at Stillwater? Marcus Smart was as great a college athlete as he could possibly be. Then that game proved it. It was Smart to come back to school and lead the Cowboys to the promised land.

Then his center went down, then his shot went away, then another player bit the dust. Now in danger of missing the NCAA's all together and losing mega-millions in NBA money, Smart takes it out on a chair, then who knows what else and now on a fan. (From what some are saying here, the first fan to ever say something mean to an opposing player.) And like the article said, his mentor, his teacher, his coach seems to only be concerned with winning the next game and salvaging his job. And I agree the NBA plug was way too easy to see through. I wonder what Smart was promised to come back this year?

Just glad no body remembered Pierre's slap.

HA! No body remembered? Check out the first thread on this.

Yes, assault. Shoving someone is assaulting them.

Smart's NBA future will not ride on the success or failure of this college basketball season in Stillwater... but acting a fool could cost him a ton of money.

Tiger fans thought it was "funny" when Pierre slapped orange jumpsuit guy. Yet Smart was wrong for a two handed shove to the chest?

Good luck with that. Oh, I see no assault charges have been filed, that's strange...

Whether charges are filed or not, that's the definition of assault.

Not only that, but he should be kicked out of college and thrown in jail for the rest of his natural life.

I agree. Some posters here think they can type some words on a screen and think, believe, and act as if what they said is fact.

Simply because charges weren't filed doesn't mean it wasn't assault, genius. Wether it was assault or not was not the point. The point was that Dana O'neil wrote a inflammatory piece that placed the blame everywhere except where it should be.

great post. a lot of posters here haven't played competitive sports so basically they have no idea what you are talking about.

I disagree. Smart has been unraveling emotionally for several games now. Frustration has been building. There was the incident where he kicked the chair. I think you have a guy who was already on the edge and just lost it.

Not sure why he came back; should have gone pro already. Now his stock is dropping and he is probably feeling that pressure. Both were wrong in this incident, but one should have been a better man than the other, but it didn't happen. Mr. Smart is a world class athelete. Just think if he really whaled on the guy, punched him in the face. He could have actually killed the guy. What would be said then?

Just think if he had gone over to the cheerleaders, retrieved one of those t shirt launchers, put in a T shirt wrapped around a billiard ball and fired it directly into the guy's cojones. Now that would have been a story.

In other words, why speculate about something that didn't happen?

It's a double standard to presume a young man will represent his university in a mature manner in all situations. Yet this is precisely what is expected. And the athlete signs up for that trip when he accepts the scholarship.

I'm not saying it's the way it ought to be; it isn't. But it's the way it is.

Right. They're all ambassadors and artists of good in their own sight. Here's when I stopped watching NBA games.

It's not that difficult. It's really not. I remember being in the band, we were held to that same standard. I remember making that trip to UTEP for the conference games in (I think it was) 2011. They had the band seated right next to the UTEP student section. They actually at one point had to place a security officer between us because of how rowdy the students had gotten. There were quite a few less than kind words yelled at us then. And we're the band. But guess what? We didn't go over and push anyone.
