What Smart did was not restraint. Restraint is walking away from the person making the terrible remarks. I've been in the same situation before, and have moved on. If he was physically assaulted that would be a different story.

You can hear it a little too well....I have my doubts. I can't stand Smart, but if there were racial slurs, the fan got off easy.

I played several years of competitive baseball as a kid and I can tell you when I was on the pitcher's mound it was business as usual for the opposing team's redneck parents to shout out all sorts of negative insults directed at me throughout the game. Instead of allowing it to bother me, I would use their insults as additional motivation to strike out the batter...and believe you me, it helped me throw that fastball a little harder and made my breaking ball cut a little quicker.

Am I missing something? The article indicated that there weren't any racial slurs involved. The fan evidently called Smart a "piece of crap."

Is the fan an idiot for calling Smart a "piece of crap?" Yes.

Is Smart an idiot for shoving the fan? Absolutely.

One can only imagine what will be yelled at Smart in the NBA because opposing fans now know how easily he can be become unhinged.

The "standard" is not attacking fans in the pro's OR college BB.
