RE: Official ECU Game Thread
Another thing id like to point out is that everyone on this board drools over every new coach we get, before they've even accomplished anything of note. Haase is a good recruiter and promoter of the program, but our on the court results have lackluster this year with a team that should be, but isn't, head and shoulders above last years team. Take off the blinders and hold the coach accountable.
We shoot way way too many threes, don't play with a lot of passion for big stretches, and don't play to our strengths offensively. It might be time to shelf purifoy and swing permanently and play Madison and Rideau.
I'm at a total loss as to what's going on with the team.

Haase only has one recruiting class right now. All of which are contributing. Rucker is a Davis rollover. He wasn't really able to recruit for 2012. Since he took the job in late march 2012 when signing day is in April. Besides Rob Williams, all the main contributions come from Haase's recruits. Need the Davis brand to graduate and move on. Wait til Haase gets a team of his own recruits who all give it their all on the court.

Know the Game.
At least we don't have to worry about Haase leaving for a big time job or Frazier leaving for the NBA early, lol.
Why do you say Haase will not leave for a big time job?

The coach has only been here two years and already there is talk on this board of getting rid of him?
I'm not a basketball fan, but he is doing a good job so far. Its the day after a much hated defeat so maybe cooler heads will bring better clarity.

I'm not saying get rid of him, that he's a bad coach, or that we won't turn things around. However, you can't just blindly idolize the coach without recognizing the results haven't been great so far

I meant after this season. Unless we go on a magical final four run, do you think anyone would hire him away after this season?

Official ECU Game Thread
With Davis we often looked lost out there. Haase has taught these guys well and we often get good shots but we don't have the guys making shots. Right now our bigger problem is that some of our guys have no motivation. I was glad to see Purifoy get some time out there but when he played he had no passion and just seemed to be going through the motions. I sometimes see the same from Swing and sometimes Ruck too.
It is the coaches job to make sure motivation isn't an issue. It shouldn't be that way but for whatever reason with this team it is. If Haase needs to yank some of these guys from their playing time then so be it. Especially the seniors. If they aren't getting it yet then they are unlikely to get it. I would rather get guys who will be here next year more seasoned, like Madison or Riddeau.

We mostly do. Occasionally we don't. Come in off the ledge.

Which of his recruits are a huge part of our problem this year? Haase hasn't done much to indicate he sucks as a coach at this point. I really don't know what you expect from him.

ECU went on an 18-3 run to finish the first half, and extended it to a 30-8 run into the second half. It's amazing UAB came back to have a chance at the end.

ECU went 13-18, 72% FT and 9-22, 41% 3pt.
UAB went 12-21, 57% FT and 5-25, 20% 3pt.
And that was the game, right there.
Yes, UAB missed nine free throws and failed to defend the three. Chad shot poorly, 3-12. Jordan was 0-3, all from tree point range, in twenty minute of playing time. Those were huge minuses. With two minutes left, UAB cut it to 2 with ball in hand and Haase failed to call time out on that possession. I was thinking he should call time out, with ball in hand, and down by 2. He didn't. Surely it must have crossed his mind.
Back to the drawing board. NINE regular season games left.

Probably my biggest issue with Haase is the timeout thing. That would have been a good time to take one, although I don't know how many we had left. I don't think keeping one back was an issue though.
He seldom takes one to break a run against us either.
I don't know what his thinking is regarding this, but I know that many of the amateur coaches on the board sputter about it pretty often.

Roy Williams does it and of course that is where Haase gets it from.

RE: Official ECU Game Thread
When one combines great 3 point shooting with our own lack of success there, poor FG and FT shooting while the opponent is playing its best game to date, you get a loss. The margin of final score is a tribute to the work done by the coaches and the team to overcome such adversity. We might have lost by the same kind of margin as another state team did this week - twice.
We are what we are and the rebuilding job is far from finished. "Rome wasn't built in a day" and neither any championship team. It looks to me like more important pieces are being added next year. I remain hopeful of final result by 2015.

It really is. What was funny was when ECU turned into ECU again, Lebo started going through timeouts like crazy. He even started to work on the clock at the 11:00 mark!

Been time for Madison (who scores just about every game he gets in) ,and Rideau (shooter) to play and bench two XCMD seniors local kid and former top in 2010 class who refuse to shoot.

It's obvious why Swing is still starting, and it's not because he is playing well. I guess I'll leave that alone.

Cool. Those numbers are always interesting. I'm kind of a numbers nerd, so that's one reason I love basketball.
