$750k. Final answer. Here's a list. Look at the company we're keeping:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/salaries/

Better yet, if Memphis Blazer is right and we're really going to go lower, look who is below us on that list.

Side note: How about Brian Kelly at Notre Dame? Is that right?

Hudspeth is on Vandy's short list IF Franklin leaves. $400,000- $600,000 looks about right for a 1st year coach, a re-tread hire, or a promoted FCS coach going to CUSA. Anything above those options would cost a lot more.........more than we are allowed to spend.

RE: Potential Candidates
Most of us would LIKE to get the coach we would get for $800,000 or so, but from past experience we know that the Crimson hued BOT would NEVER consider that kind of salary for a UAB FBHC. That is why there are THREE considerations always in the formula - Who do we want? Who can we get? and Who can we afford? Only the first of these questions is ever asked in Tuscaloosa.

I don't think a $300k - $500k coach that can pull us out of this hole exists. I really want to be wrong, but can you do much better than Neil Callaway for $300k? He is the quintessential $300k head coach to me.

Again, you don't know what you are talking about.

USA and Troy's head coaches COMBINED make less than $800,000.

UAB paid $200,000+ more for McGee than USA does their coach and at least $60,000 more than Troy pays.

Okay, what exactly are we aiming for? Do we need to be just slightly better than Troy? Right now, I would take it, because we are not. But if 5 years from now that's all we have to say for ourselves, would you be okay with that?

Louisiana-Lafayette: $800k
Western Kentucky: $855,600
Houston: $900,000
Memphis: $956,779
East Carolina: $1,150,000
Wyoming: $1,200,000

How much longer do you want to be worse than all of them? That's just what is coming from the school, not total compensation.

Louisiana-Lafayette has the support to back their number up. Western Kentucky hired Bobby Petrino, and his contract buyout made that amount worth the investment.

Memphis, East Carolina, and Wyoming are all in better conferences than UAB and have more booster support.

I'm not even sure why I'm arguing with you at this point, you've already made yourself look ridiculous.

For the right guy we might can get to 600k, maybe a little more... but that will mean that the hire impresses hell out of the BoT which is ill inclined to do anything except watch us slide to oblivion, and that we go hat in hand to one of our few and often pestered big money donors for help with it.

It would really have to be just the right guy, and even then I think we'l look at a relatively low base contract with nice incentives if he gets it done on the field.

Nah - they've got the money to keep things in the closet/buried under BD's new concrete construction plus it's when he's HC does the problem happen

Coach-in-waiting!

I think Lane Kiffin will be allowed to call plays that Saban approves from a playbook that Saban approves, so we'll see how much the offense actually changes.

Kiffin is probably an alright coordinator anyway. I know he is a great quarterbacks coach.

What? Lol... He's paid over 800k there. They have a OCS that's currently being expanded... And INDOOR practice field. And the "Town" your refer to has a metro Population of over 500,000 people....

Coach HUD will leave for a SEC like school if and when he leaves.

There's not going to be a HEAD coach leave a SBC school for UAB. It's just not going to happen. Basically a lateral move at best...

Only school I would say you would have a shot at is ULM since coach Berry is paid only around 300k and Monroe isn't the greatest place in the world to live or facilities wise.
