Sadly no.

Has to be the only reason he’s still employed - buyout drops after the season end.

And surely Rice has that buyout money secured
Might help raise that $100 million for athletics if donors knew that part was for the buyout.

I think the bigger issue is going to be Dunlevie and his coaching endowment. Though he's a Rice alum and big time donor, he started this endowment in part due to his prior relationship with Bloomgren when he was at Stanford.
Kansas walked into Austin and won with a third string quarterback. We scored 0 down there with a full deck.

If it's truly an endowment, I'm not sure exactly what he can do. He can express an opinion, but I wouldn't think that would be binding.

He shouldn’t get a say on when Bloom gets fired.
I have recently had to make a similar decision with a remodeling contractor. Their work on a small bathroom was not up to their promised, “substantial and workman like fashion”, and instead of the five days they promised, took 13. So instead of letting them continue to underperform and finish late and poorly on another larger and more complex bathroom remodel, I had to let them go. Contractors proposal says small bathroom price is $12383 but even though I had made initial payment of over $18K he tells me he had built in expenses for the other bathroom demo so can’t refund me the difference. Sort of like a buyout clause. Not the most pleasant decision but why pay twice as much for a sloppy product when you can pay only 50% more for less of a sloppy product?
Will extensive renovations to HRS require that the football team play in an alternate location for a season? If so, I could understand making that season 2022 in the C-USA lame duck year and leaving Bloom in place for another lost season. But be ready to start in the AAC with a new stadium and new coaching staff.

That's easy for you to say-- you didn't put up the money.
TexasU gave up 57 to KU last night. Looking at the highlights, that may be the worst Whorn defense I have ever seen--dreadfully slow, can't cover, and can't tackle.

Please refresh my memory. How many did Bloomgren's vaunted "pound the rock" offense hang on them? Oh, yeah, zero.
The issue has changed...it's no longer " keep Bloomgren and see if he can improve next year by adding a great recruiting class"...it has become "keep Bloomgren and see if he can overcome all of the departures by transfer and a substandard recruiting class"...there are lots of rumors about departing players and recruiting difficulties...probably time for a chance.

Comparing scores gives weird results. Try any chain that starts with Rice 30, UAB 24 and look at the results.

I think the difference is Kansas believed in themselves, and got early evidence they could, while Rice did not believe in themselves, and also go early evidence they were right.

Still a coaching problem.

Any details on recruiting rumors?

If that’s true, there is zero reason to retain Bloom. If the ship is sinking, why keep the captain that ran it into an iceberg?

IF it is true. I'm skeptical. And next year's recruiting class is anything but "substandard".
What’s the over/under on current Owls entering the transfer portal after this disaster of a season? Rice players aren’t blind or stupid. They have to see what is being “coached” isn’t working and won’t work at Rice.

What exactly is Bloom pitching to these recruits?

Chance at a Rice degree. Check
Early playing time. Maybe, unless he can find a grad tranfer for you position.
Chance at beating an FCS school? Check
Humiliation against P5 competition in non-conference play? Check
Chance at beating the worst programs in the worst conference? Check
Embarrassment against the better teams in the worst conference? Check
Playing in front of family, friends and a hundreds of half time performers and their families who leave as soon as halftime is done? Check

Our recruiting class is ranked 109th by 24/7 Sports and 7th in CUSA. Describing that as “substandard” would be excessively generous.

Transfers wouldn’t surprise me. It’s fairly obvious that the Bloomgren teams don’t like playing for him as much as Bailiff’s teams did for him.
