The problem with going independent is it falls apart if 1 or 2 independent schools jump ship and join a conference. Anybody believe that Liberty wouldn't join any decent conference that was offered?

Yeh,but odu fans would have loved the schedule liberty had this year and odu would be in a conference the a10. The only reason liberty would move up would be for non football sports. Believe you me, you would like the independent route in football if it was done right, IF IT IS TRUE! Face it, odu days in the cusa are numbered. Money is driving this.

As would ODU if the opportunity presented itself.

Indeed.
In this very plausible scenario, ODU could find it difficult to fill out an FBS schedule.

I would think we would try and take a leap of faith every once in a while. Is what we are doing working now? If we did not try, and thought defeatist thoughts, would we even have a football team?
Wouldn’t this alliance come with long term contracts? I would assume it would be like a 6 year contract with each other with buyouts etc.

SMART.

I would assume so as well.

However, there is a very real possibility that UMass goes back to FCS, or drops football altogether.
Liberty has enough in the way of financial resources that it would not be deterred by any reasonable (or even unreasonable) buyout clause.

Which team mentioned prints its own money and wouldn't have any issue with a buyout if an opportunity presented itself? Which team(s) would be left holding the bag (sans dress)?

Harry is a cog in the ODU Athletics machine.

The tweet that I noted was Harry's response to a questions asking if there was any truth to the rumors, which he said that "it's just a rumor. But we've been told that nothing like that is in the works." I did not see anything from him that sparked any of the reported "rumors."
Sun belt 2.0 I do like this idea though. It is a good plan. Follow the money. That rules everything. I love the idea of 3 virginia schools, 2 north carolina schools and this is important for non revenue sports
Sunbelt 2.0 is shifting sand from one side of the room to the other.

No sun belt 2.0 is what I keep hearing. I actually like the a10 idea the best

Gotcha. Well that would be one VA school and the two NC schools are clear across the state. Also assume we’d be stuck with the Florida schools and some Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, and Arkansas schools. I don’t see much benefit. Maybe save on a flight to Texas but still brutal travel. Football needs to go Indy, A10 or not.

Hey you do not have anyone. I AGREE with you. I am telling you what I am told. I have never said i agree with sun belt 2.0 but i do like the a10 idea. Read my posts. I am just passing out info.
Everrespect,i do like sun belt 2.0 over what we have now,but I agree with you about a10/indy. Just about anything is better.
SunBelt isn’t worth the exit entrance fees etc unless it’s a complete reshuffle between the two with all the fees etc waived. Otherwise, I’d stay where we are until a spot in the A10/Indy or AAC is an option. I was disappointed to read Harry’s tweet, but who knows if it’s true. He’s just repeating what the school’s official line is. I hope it’s still happening.
I wish we could end up in the AAC. Basketball will be very competitive. Football is another story. I cant wait to see what RR brings. Since we didn't play in 2020 and RR has 2 recruiting classes under him, does anything think going .500 is asking too much?
We are so far from the AAC right now that it is not even worth consideration. There has to be another step between where we are and the ultimate goal of getting to the AAC. What that next step should be is what our admin needs to figure out asap.
